Hunter x Hunter Volume 40 Cover Finished
Togashi has confirmed that the next volume is almost ready for release, hinting that we will be seeing more Hunter x Hunter content in the coming months.
On September 24, 2026. it was announced that Yoshihiro Togashi has completed the cover for Volume 40, which is the second time Togashi has made an update regarding his volume cover drawing since September 1, 2022 with the cover of Volume 37.
Two dfays later on September 26th, Togashi confirmed that he had made revisions to the contents of Volume 40, from Chapter 411: “Announcement” to Chapter 420: “Encounter”.
Usually in volume releases, Togashi cleans up unfinished art, as he often sends Shonen Jump full chapters that are not necessarily at their best drawing quality, sometimes to meet a deadline in spite of Togashi’s irregular schedule.
In this tweet, he also draws Phantom Troupe leader Chrollo Lucilfer as a cat, saying “Namenna yo,” which is a reference to Nameneko (“Don’t Mess With Me Cats”), a popular Japanese character phenomenon from the 1980s.
The name “Nameneko” is a pun on “namen na yo,” “Don’t mess with me” or “Don’t underestimate me.”
Furthermore, on October 5th, Togashi made an update regarding commissioned illustrations, stating
“Due to a combination of physical and mental health issues, I’ve decided that after completing the work I’m currently committed to, I will turn down all future requests that come with deadlines and prioritize working on my own manuscripts. Once I’m able to resume work on them, I’ll announce it on Twitter.”
One of the reasons for his continuous delays with chapter release has to do with his side hustle as an illustrator, which is a common experience with any mangaka to earn more income in this economy.
The tweet indicates that he will commit to finishing the current batch and after Chapter 430’s completion, he will turn down any future requests with deadlines and focus instead on the Hunter x Hunter manga, which could significantly boost his progress for the next batch.
