Fairy Tail Author’s Latest Manga on Half Year Hiatus
Dead Rock is entering its halfway point in Winter 2027, potentially towards its planned final arc.
On May 6, 2026, Dead Rock, Hiro Mashima’s ongoing monthly manga, concluded its first arc, the “Academy Arc” with Chapter 35: “God Fragment”.
In the Japanese editor’s note, it was announced that the series will be on hiatus until Winter 2027, indicating that the series will not be around for around 7 months.
This coincides with the release of Fairy Tail’s 20th anniversary manga, ReFantasia that will be running for the next two months starting on July 29th.
By Chapter 36, the “Godfall” or “God Slayer” Arc will begin, referencing the final battle against the main antagonist, God or Elfed.
In July 1, 2025 in his Twitter space, Mashima mentioned how he saw both Dead Rock and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest ending soon.
Although in a later Twitter space on October 8th, Mashima stated that he might extend the Fairy Tail sequel to potentially 250 or 300 chapters, with the latest chapter being 217 as of writing.
Considering that Natsu will be facing off against a fusion of both Igneel and Earthland Faris away from the rest, that figure might be more accurate.
Furthermore, on August 5th, Mashima has announced his intention to write a new manga, perhaps due to how two of his works are nearing their ends.
