On April 17, 2025, Studio Pierrot has updated their Boruto webpage, with the line “A second part has been confirmed” added to the show’s description.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime ended with Episode 293: “Farewell” on March 26, 2023.

While many fans have been excited for an update after the anime concluded the Code Arc, other fans are concerned that this is the same old story, as some have hoped that Boruto would keep to a seasonal schedule similar to Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War.

Boruto aired its 293 episodes in a weekly format as many older anime, such as One Piece and the original Naruto and Naruto Shippuden anime have done, meaning animators had to spend months crafting one episode per week, even resorting to outsourcing some episodes to other studios to keep up with the schedule.

There is no word on how many episodes will be released or when the anime will return but if One Piece’s six-month break is to go by, Boruto might expect an easier, less stressful production, on top of Pierrot Films’ innovations with Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, that could translate to better animated scenes in the future.

Boruto is the sequel to the successful Naruto series (1999-2014) written in 2016 and ended in 20 volumes in 2022. The story follows the Seventh Hokage Naruto’s son Boruto as he follows a different path from his father while facing the threat of the Kara organization.

In 2023, the Boruto sequel “Two Blue Vortex” premieres and continues the story with a runaway Boruto, who has become an enemy of the Leaf Village.

As of April 17, 2025, “Two Blue Vortex” would accumulate over 1 million sales within just 4 volumes.
