Bleach TYBW Cour 3 Preview Images Released

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 27 is titled “A”, covering the end of the Soul King Palace invasion.

On September 16, 2024, a pre-screening took place for the first three episodes of Cour 3 of the Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Arc.

Five preview images and the episode staff list were released in the Bleach anime website

The preview images show Shutara Senjumaru and Uryu Ishida facing off.

In the last episode of Cour 2, “Black”, we saw Senjumaru unleash her Bankai, which caused the three worlds: Soul Society, the World of the Living, and Hueco Mundo, to feel an overwhelming Spiritual Pressure in the form of earthquakes.

The Bankai, Shatatsu Karagara Shigarami no Tsuji, was able to seal away the Schustaffel, the four strongest Sternritter bodyguards of Yhwach, in differing tapestries, which seemingly connect to their respective fates.

However, the preview implies that at least Uryu has escaped from his trap and will face off against the sole Royal Guard keeping the Quincy invaders from reaching the Soul King.

The third and fourth preview images shows Yhwach and Ichibei preparing to fight.

This was already in the Cour 3 trailer from July 7, 2024 and would hint towards the event shown in a preview from Episode 3 of Krew BeInside (September , 2024).

The fifth image shows Ichigo’s team running towards the Soul King Palace, indicating that the episode will cover the second half of Chapter 609 up to Chapter 611.

Story

The synopsis from the Bleach anime website reads:

“A battle between Zero Squad and Yhwach’s Royal Guard over the Soul King.

As the offensive and defensive battle intensifies, Sutara Senjumaru, who has released the seal of the blood oath in exchange for the lives of Kirinji, Hikifune, and Nimaiya, uses his bankai, Sadakara Gaishirakutsuji, to corner the Royal Guard, including Uryu.

Meanwhile, facing off against Yhwach, Hyosube Ichibei unleashes his Shirafude Ichimonji,

transforming Yhwach into a fragile, ephemeral black ant.

Yhwach and Uryu are in a desperate situation. What will be the outcome of the battle…?”

Bleach author, Tite Kubo, released a commemorative illustration to celebrate the Cour 3 advance screening

This shows Jugram Haschwalth, Yhwach’s second-in-command, and Bazz Z, Sternitter F, who was among the Sternritter whose powers and lives were offered up for Yhwach’s Auswählen in Episode 25: “THE MASTER”.

This visual indicates their connection as Episode 14: “THE LAST 9DAYS” hints at Bazz B’s familiarity with Haschwalth, whom he calls “Jugo”.

For the Cour 1 and 2 screenings, Kubo drew these illustrations of Ichigo and Uryu respectively

We also received the key Visual for the Cour 3 Ending Song: Monochrome by Suisoh, featuring Ichigo Kurosaki and Uryu Ishida in black and white.

Tomohisa Taguchi is currently the chief director, instead of series director, of the adaptation starting in Cour 3.

Taguchi retains the responsibility of series composition or the main writer of the story that handles the major events and their flow.

As such, Taguchi will handle the script for Episode 27 instead of the usual role of storyboarder or episode director.

For Cour 1, Taguchi has done screenplay for Episodes 1 to 4, which cover the prologue of the Thousand Year Blood War arc.

To note, a few additions were made into these episodes, such as

Taguchi has not done any script for Cour 2.

Hikaru Murata is the current series director in place of Taguchi and has directed Episodes 4 and 10 of Cour 1, and Episodes 14 and 26 of Cour 2.

Episode 4: “Kill the Shadow” shows the beginning of the first Wandenreich attack on the Seiretei while Episode 10: “The Battle” features the conclusion to the battle between Kenpachi Zaraki and Retsu Unohana.

The Cour 2 placements likely indicate the shift in roles between Taguchi and Murata as Episodes 14 and 26 mark the beginning and end, respectively, of Cour 2.

The animation directors listed have mostly worked on Episode 26 and were part of the staff of Taguchi’s original anime, Akudama Drive.

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War – Cour 3 will begin airing on October 5, 2024 at 23:00 Japan Time.
