ANIME-ORIGINAL RENJI VS URYU FIGHT CONFIRMED? Fight Rearrangements? What to Expect in Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 33

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 33 is titled, “Gate of the Sun”

Taken from the title of Chapter 629, this will likely only cover the events of Chapters 629 until Chapter 630: “Twinned Twilight”, making this the most anime-original of the Thousand Year Blood War adaptation, even more than Episode 28: “Kill the King”.

However, we are about to experience a major rearrangement of content as portions of Chapter 635: “Hooded Enigma” will be covered.

Once again in this cour, we might see Kubo’s hand in giving a supporting character some unexpected development.

The preview images confirm that the pinkish-purple color palette will remain in use throughout the rest of the season to indicate Wahrwelt’s environment.

We mostly see the shocked reactions of Kyouraku, Urahara, and Soi-Fon to the sniping of the Lieutenants by Lille Barro.

Askin and Grimmjow’s shots indicate we will see their fight in its fullest, which ended in Chapter 635.

We also see a shot of Yhwach, which indicates that we might see Yhwach fight against the remainder of the Bambies and easily defeat them.

The question is: will Yhwach close his eyes before or after the fight between Jugram Haschwalth and Bazz-B as the previews highlight Yhwach’s eyes.

Dali Chen has already directed for Bleach Thousand Year Blood War, specifically for Cour 2 with Episode 19: “The White Haze”, and Episode 26: “Black”.

Episode 19 is considered the best episode of Cour 2 and so we might be in for a treat under Chen’s direction.

This will be the first time he will storyboard his own episode.

What to Expect

First Half is Manga Content: Grimmjow vs Askin

Ichigo’s side would come across Askin Nakk le Vaar, whom Grimmjow would gleefully chase after, as shown in the cour’s opening.

Lille Barro Shootout

Majority of the Lieutenants will be shot down throughout this segment.

Keep in mind that at this point, the Gotei 13 strike team consist of the following:

Squad 1: Shunsui Kyouraku and Nanao Ise

Squad 2: Soi-Fon and Marechiyo Omaeda

Squad 4: Isane Kotetsu

Squad 5: Shinji Hirako and Momo Hinamori

Squad 6: Byakuya Kuchiki and Renji Abarai

Squad 9: Shuhei Hisagi

Squad 13: Rukia Kuchiki, Kiyone Kotetsu, Sentaro Kotsubaki

From these people, Lille Barro will shoot down Shuhei, and, in the anime, Ōmaeda , Kotetsu > Kotsubaki, and especially Isane.

This will be the last time we will see these characters in the cour at the very least and with Isane being among the victims, the Gotei team loses their best healer since Unohana was killed by Kenpachi as part of their duel.

Momo is the only healer left in the team and she will still be relevant in the Gotei’s fight against Gerard Valkyrie in later episodes.

Within this group, Squads 11 and 12 went in a different portion due to Mayuri intending to go to a different portion of Wahrwelt and Kenpachi returning from a bathroom break.

The unlikely pair of Mayuri and Kenpachi will encounter Pernida, which means that this episode will initiate “Baby, Hold Your Hand” if all of Chapter 635 will be adapted.

Meanwhile, it seems Renji has headed out on his own, likely due to Lille’s sniping efforts separating the herd, as intended.

NEW: 10 minutes of Renji vs Uryu

In contrast, we have 10 minutes of original content, featuring Renji’s anime-original encounter with Uryu that never once took place in the manga whatsoever.

According to the leaks, Renji and Uryu will be showing off different skills that are exclusive to the anime.

This will be a fight with full intent to kill from both sides, with Renji and Uryu no longer viewing each other as comrades but calling each other as “Shinigami” and “Quincy” respectively.

Because they go all out, Renji uses his True Bankai, Soo Zabimaru while Uryu activates his Vollstandig early on.

Renji will show off a new attack from his True Bankai never before demonstrated, which is intended on draining Uryu’s power and forced him to use Sklave Rei.

This will be the first time Uryu will use Sklave Rei, which could also boost his Vollstandig like Sternritters such as Robert Accutrone and the Bambies have shown.

The leaks have also noted that Uryu nearly dies about 5 times throughout the episode, displaying Renji’s excellent performance akin to his fight with Mask de Masculine.

Uryu will also use another advanced Quincy spell into the form of “Kirchenlied: Sankt Zwinger”, the defensive spell used by fake Yhwach (Royd Lloyd) against Genryusai Yamamoto in Episode 6: “The Fire” and Yhwach himself in his anime fight against Ichigo in Episode 28: “Kill the King”.

This would be used as retaliation for Renji’s Bankai draining him.

Uryu will also show another ability from his Vollstandig, which has command over flying feathers akin to Senbozakura Kageyoshi, on top of an enhanced Antithesis that allowed him to switch even control over a Bankai momentarily, as shown in his fight against Shutara Senjumaru.

We might probably learn of the Vollstandig’s name but that has not been indicated in the leaks as of yet.

Renji’s True Bankai has only been relevant during the Mask de Masculine fight in the manga so we can hope that Renji might show off more beyond even this anime-only fight with Uryu.

While the leaks show how Renji was close to killing Uryu, unlike with Mask, Renji will lose this fight with a hole in his chest, allowing Uryu to continue his plans unopposed.

Next Episode Poem: Mayuri Kurotsuchi

In a surprising twist, we learn that the next episode poem will be from Mayuri Kurotsuchi

“Be your own god”

Befitting Mayuri’s view of himself as a scientist who despises perfection, Mayuri embodies a similar view to Aizen of having absolute command over one’s own life, holding no accountability to anyone or anything.

However, behind Mayuri’s madness is the same humanity that he shares even among questionable folk in Bleach.

Kubo has stated that he does not give villains any flashbacks and we only see a few glimpses of Mayuri in Kisuke Urahara’s past.

Although Urahara himself tempts moral boundaries like Mayuri and Aizen, by having an entire arc surrounding his past, we are meant to sympathize and side with him but it is in this fight where we see more humanizing moments for Mayuri without the use of a flashback.

This might indicate another major rearrangement.

Considering that the first half of this episode covers not only Grimmjow vs Askin but also Kenpachi and Mayuri entering a different part of Wahrwelt, it is possible that “Baby, Hold Your Hand” or Mayuri and Nemu vs Pernida Parnkgjas will go first ahead of Bazz-B vs Jugram Haschwalth, likely due to Mayuri’s status as a protagonist.

Episode 34 will be titled, “Baby, Hold your Hand”, indicating that the next episode will adapt Chapters 635: “Hooded Enigma” to at least Chapter 637: “Baby, Hold Your Hand”.

The “Baby, Hold your Hand” titles covers 7 chapters, from Chapter 637 to 644, with the Pernida fight starting in Chapter 635.

This could also mean that the other chapters will receive a poem spoken by Nemi in Volume 71, “Baby, Hold your Hand”.

Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 34: “Baby, Hold your Hand” will premiere on November 23, 2024.
