The One Piece God Valley Film is REQUIRED Viewing For Manga Readers
One Piece: God Valley is required viewing even for manga readers as there will be expanded lore within the movie that was left out from the manga, to better complete the story of the God Valley Incident
On September 6, 2026, there are some sources suggesting that the upcoming One Piece God Valley movie will contain additional material that did not appear in the manga but are directly from Oda, making such details in the movie canon.
This means that this will be the first One Piece movie that is fully required for viewing for manga readers as well.
There could also be some SBS material integrated into the movie.
The One Piece anime’s second season will end in 25 episodes by September 27th, sending the anime adaptation on a different path from where it began 27 years ago with the way the God Valley movie could potentially divide the 19-chapter long Loki backstory between two mediums.
The God Valley movie will cover the flashback arc, with the God Valley Incident occupying Chapter 1159: “The Island of Fate” to Chapter 1166: “New Stories” for a total of 8 chapters out of the 19 in the flashback.
While One Piece chapters have 16 pages worth of story material, with the 17th being the cover page, they tend to be dense with detail, such that Toei has been able to spread a single chapter across 15 to 20 minutes within a 22 minute episode.
This puts the overall God Valley Incident at a total of 122 pages while the whole flashback up to Chapter 1166 is about 178 pages.
However, movies are built to be faster-paced, meaning a 20 minute single chapter is not in the cards.
If anything, each 20 minute segment could fill up 2 or even 3 chapters worth of content.
For context, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc lasted 100 minutes or 1 hour and 40 minutes and covered Chapter 39 to Chapter 52, a total of 14 chapters or 273 pages, albeit Chainsaw Man chapters are known for their brisk pacing.
Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Returns lasted 155 minutes or 2 hours and 35 minutes and covers Chapters 140 to the first six pages of Chapter 157 for a total of 18 chapters or over 330 pages.
Most One Piece films barely reach 2 hours, averaging about 1 hour, 40 minutes, with the longest, One Piece Film: Gold, being exactly 2 hours long.
With the potential of additional content and the heavier pacing within each One Piece chapter, the God Valley film could clock in around the average time
