Sanji’s TRUE NIGHTMARE Vanquished! One Piece Chapter 1196 Early Spoilers!
This is Sanji’s Hell Memories: Ivankov EXPOSED the truth about Sanji to his face, that Sanji cannot love himself but it is through the Straw Hats that he can accept and therefore love himself.
In the previous One Piece chapter, Sanji unlocks his Hell Memories, realizing his tendency to self-sacrifice is getting in the way of his path to becoming a Conqueror.
One Piece Chapter 1196 is titled, “There’s No Worth in a Love that Longs for Death”
This chapter has 17 pages.
The cover page features a kangaroo boxing against Lilith and Edison.
Killingham brings out Sanji’s nightmare, which turns out to be Ivankov.
Killingham merges with Nightmare Ivankov, resulting in a figure with Kirin’s body (wearing leotards) and Ivankov’s head.
Oda is really maximizing that drawing of Ivankov with Kaido’s Devil Fruit from SBS Volume 108 on March 4, 2024.
We get another flashback to the Kamabakka Kingdom, where Sanji stayed for two years.
This lasts 4 pages and is quite text-heavy, likely being a therapeutic effort by Ivankov and Oda to highlight the problem with Sanji’s view with love (outside of Oda’s own writing that turns Sanji into an offender post-Thriller Bark).
Sanji recalls Ivankov telling him that what he has always lacked is “self-love.”
This makes sense as the okama represent that self-love the most, due to their acceptance of their unique gender identity and fluidity.
The flashback reveals that, even though Sanji won his most fights against many Okama, he always sustained injuries in the process. Ivan notices this and tells Sanji that he could easily dodge the attacks, but that he doesn’t value himself.
He doesn’t love himself, that is his greatest weakness.
Ivankov represents Sanji’s Hell Memories, his truest nightmare (greatest fear), because Ivankov exposed him, as the only one who recognized his weakness (and for no other reason) and as Sanji reflects on Iva’s words and accepts that he is a Strawhat, and that this identity allows him to love himself.
Afterward, Ivankov disappears as well.
Sanji lights a cigarette and tells Killingham that the man is way too full of himself.
In contrast to the self-love Sanji discovers, Killingham is too egoistic to see the people around him also deserve love, not nightmares to play with.
Unfortunately, there will be a BREAK NEXT WEEK.
One Piece Chapter 1197 will be released on November 2, 2026.
