On June 25, 2026, we got a preview of Volume 39 of Hunter x Hunter, which features Hisoka Morow, the most recurring antagonist of the series and argued “fifth” main character alongside Gon Freecss, Killua Zoldyck, Kurapika and Leorio Paradinight.

Titled “Negotiation”, this covers the 2024 batch of chapters, from Chapter 401: “Moonlight” to Chapter 410: “Negotiation, Part 4”, where the volume title is from.

Hisoka is a relevant character within the volume as he is Chrollo’s main target and Bonolenov is stalking him in Chapter 405: “Performance”.

This is the fourth cover to feature Hisoka, the first being Volume 7: “Nen Combatant” (Chapters 55 to 63) during the Heaven’s Arena Arc, Volume 12: “September 4th, Part 2” (Chapters 104 to 115) as one of the Phantom Troupe in the Yorknew City Arc, and the most recent from Volume 34: “Battle to the Death” (Chapters 351 to 360) during the ongoing Succession War Arc.

However, this is his first solo cover as he is featured alongside other characters in the aforementioned covers.

We see his hair down, which is from his current look in the Succession War Arc, first shown wit

He has the number 39 tattooed on his right hand, which touches his chin.

The number 39 is a fitting choice for a Hisoka cover given that Hisoka is associated with the number 4, the number for death in East Asian cultures, as he is the 4th member of the Phantom Troupe, Examinee Number 44 in the Hunter Exam, and he calls himself the Grim Reaper.

With 39 being one number off 40, it could foreshadow Hisoka meeting his own death in the Black Whale and thereby this could be his last cover, depending on where the story goes.

This cover shares some similarities with Chrollo Lucilfer’s cover in Volume 11 (Chapters 94 to 103), where Chrollo is seen covering his mouth with his left hand

Along with this teaser, we got confirmation that Hunter x Hunter has sold over 100 million copies across 39 volumes, 410 chapters and 28 years of its run since its inception on March 3, 1998.
