Fairy Tail Officially Returns to Weekly Shonen Magazine?
Fairy Tail fans can celebrate the 20th anniversary with two extra chapters on the series’ original magazine, a new character popularity poll and much more!
On April 7, 2026, we finally got the announcements for the 20th Anniversary for Fairy Tail.
Hiro Mashima will write and draw a new Fairy Tail short-term serialization starting on August 5 in the Weekly Shonen Magazine Issue No. 36 and 37, meaning two extra chapters.
The preview is as follows:
“The summer festival will stir up new trouble for Natsu and his friends!!”
It seems this will be a self-contained story about Fairy Tail attending a summer festival (since August is part of Japan’s summer season and Natsu’s name means “Summer”, following Mashima’s naming convention for his protagonists: Rave Master’s Haru for Spring, Natsu being Summer, Edens Zero’s Shiki for Four Seasons, and the ongoing Dead Rock’s Yakuto means leap year).
To note, this will be Mashima’s artwork since the sequel, Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest, is drawn by his former assistant Atsuo Ueda, with Mashima’s writing and storyboards.
Other Projects
Mashima will host signing events in five major cities in Japan
There will also be Art exhibition and sale events nationwide
Already in effect is the launch of the 20th Anniversary special website, which you can find here
Later on, there will be a 20th Anniversary promotional video
Finally, we will get the 20th Anniversary Character Popularity Poll, which will run from April 8 to April 21 via MagaPoke.
