Ragnir is USOPP’S BIG UPGRADE! One Piece Chapter 1170 Full Spoilers!

Oda might stay true to his storytelling beats and give Usopp the payoff he deserves on Elbaph. Will Ragnir switch hands, becoming Usopp’s legendary hammer instead of Loki’s in the future?

ONE PIECE © 1997 by Eiichiro Oda/SHUEISHA Inc.

In the previous One Piece chapter, Harald calls for Loki to take the Legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaph in order to stop him but Harald turns evil and takes on Shanks and Gaban while Loki faces off against the living weapon, Ragnir.

One Piece Chapter 1170 is titled, “Reverse”

This chapter has 17 pages, including the cover page.

COVER PAGE REQUEST: Jinbei as an Eel Train station attendant, handing out bento lunches to passengers.

The passengers are younger versions of Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp. Nami, Chopper and Robin.

This seems to emphasize that Jinbe is a father or uncle figure to the crew, especially with the

Editor’s note: “The Hammer’s sneak attack?!”

Ragnir’s Mjolnir Vow: Only the Worthy Bear Elbaph’s Treasure

The chapter begins with Loki wondering who threw the hammer that threw him out of the Treasure Room.

With seemingly no one around, Loki prepares to take the Devil Fruit but he hears a chittering sound from behind and is alarmed to see the hammer moving and destroying the Castle floor with ease.

This causes Loki to worry that everything will fall down because of Ragnir.

While some say this scene contradicts his reaction to Shamrock’s Cerberus in Chapter 1138: “The Harley”, it actually makes sense.

Think of the scene from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, with Nute Gunray saying ti is “getting out of hand. Now there are two of them”.

Loki is still not used to the idea of weapons eating Devil Fruits and becoming animated objects.

While fighting against his own guards, Harald exclaims that the hammer Ragnir chooses those who are worthy.

Which is similar to the way Mjolnir works in Marvel comics, where Odin enchants the hammer to only be wielded by a “worthy” person, which is more of a moral requirement.

However, with Harald’s next words, stating his current Holy Knight strength makes him worthy, this suggests that Ragnir follows Mjolnir’s Norse traditional trait of being too heavy to be lifted by anyone without divine levels of strength.

Harald and Loki are the only ones capable of lifting Ragnir, which in turns means they are also worthy of acquiring Elbaph’s Legendary Devil Fruit treasure.

Base Holy Knights of God DO NOT HAVE CONQUEROR’S HAKI

Suddenly, Gaban and Shanks come down to make Harald kneel, with Gaban remarking that his wounds are healing slowly due to the main weakness of Holy Knights of God: Conqueror’s Haki Coating

This is because of the many times the Holy Knights kidnapped Shanks as a baby and each time, the Roger Pirates keep fighting back to retake Shanks.

It is sweet that the Roger Pirates refer to Shanks (and to some extent Buggy) as Roger’s son and this was long before Roger did sire a biological son with Portgas D. Rouge, Ace.

However, it would be an obvious conclusion that Garling never went to pick up Shanks himself and Shamrock would not have been a full-fledged Holy Knight of God to carry out such an important task as retrieve his younger twin brother.

This means that Gaban personally clashed with Sommers, Maffey and the God Valley generation of Holy Knights and that none of them have Conqueror’s Haki.

But there is more to this.

Imu’s Haki Contracts?

The ominous Haki that the Holy Knights emit is not Conqueror’s Haki but just Haki in general, added from Imu’s own Haki.

Remember, Haki is raw willpower manifested, so in essence, Imu infuses his own Haki into his Holy Knights via the Covenants, which we covered here.

If we follow this logic, this means that the Covenants are like Jujutsu Kaisen’s “Binding Vows”, adding a person’s “cursed energy” into objects, whether it is in making binding vows or in the creation of Cursed Objects for Reincarnation.

Shamrock and Garling, who were not spotted fighting the Roger Pirates and who are spotlighted in Chapter 1121: “The Ebb and Flow of Ages” as among the One Piece hunters, might be the only exceptions, especially with Garling becoming an Elder, gaining even more Haki and power.

It would also look like Roger, Rayleigh and especially Gaban were the most experienced in fighting the Holy Knights.

This explains Sommers’ traumatized reaction to seeing Gaban in Chapter 1148: “Ronja”, because Gabam keeps beating Sommers and the others every time the Holy Knights kidnap Shanks as a child.

In fact, Shanks brings up that same trauma in this chapter as Sommers mentioned how Gaban specifically sliced him up to pieces.

History seems to repeat itself as that is also what happened on Elbaph.

Gaban is surprised a fighting force made up of sedentary World Nobles exists.

Shanks is surprised he could have ended up living like those boring World Nobles, with Gaban remarking that it is fate.

No wonder why Gaban calls Shanks a “child of fate” in  Chapter 1152: “A Horrible Day”

Shanks worries that there is no other way to save Harald, so Gaban entrusts Loki to save the day.

Is The Squirrel Hammer Ratatoskr Usopp’s FINAL UPGRADE?

Loki panics at the sight of the hammer moving on its own and tired of being jumped by a fricking hammer, Loki attacks with his own and it is coated with Conqueror’s Haki, perhaps even unwittingly doing so from his years of fighting in the Underworld.

And yet even that was not enough as Loki’s own hammer was smashed into pieces.

But this hit was actually enough to get through to the hammer, quite literally, as we see Ragnir turn into its Hybrid form.

A giant squirrel with the head of a hammer and there is a bump on its head, showing that Loki did a number on Ragnir and the squirrel is quite hurt at this.

Squirrels are not unusual in the One Piece world, in terms of importance as the Risky Brothers were a pair of zombie squirrels made with Gecko Moria’s Kage Kage no Mi powers and were there to serve Perona during the Thriller Bark arc.

And they were order to carry the coffin containing Usopp, Nami, and Tony Tony Chopper.

There is also a hidden connection to squirrels that Oda hopefully pays off and that is with Usopp.

In Chapter 1081: “Tenth Ship Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates, Kuzan”, a cover request was made, showing “Male Straw Hats sleeping with some squirrels”.

And Oda has a habit of paying off some of the cover stories but not requests.

More importantly, Usopp could get a final upgrade by befriending his own weapon Zoan.

Think about the pattern.

One of Usopp’s earliest opponents, Mr. 4, whose gun, Lassoo, ate a Devil Fruit, the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Dachshund, to become that animal.

Although he left the Dials of Skypiea behind after Enies Lobby, Usopp had the most amount of unique fighting styles and it would be nice if he had another added to his set.

There is no Straw Hat with such a unique combat style as the use of handy weapons, which should be different from Franky’s cybernetics.

While Usopp is already unique with his Pop Greens, they are not what will take him beyond the New World.

Ragnir, with its immense strength and versatility as a squirrel, can provide that final push Usopp needs to match the likes of the Holy Knights.

Like Zoro, he could even deal with the rowdiness and even Haki of Ragnir, assuming Ragnir has Haki on top of its impressive powers.

Usopp has barely been given anything to work with during the Elbaph Arc so this upgrade could be the key.

Base Holy Knights of God DO NOT HAVE CONQUEROR’S HAKI

We return to Harald, who is quite different from every other Holy Knight opponent Gaban has faced since, like Rocks, he has Conqueror’s Haki as protection against the immortality counter.

Gaban also confirms he has never fought any Knights of God that possess Conqueror’s Haki, meaning that Sommers and the others from God Valley never displayed or even possessed that Haki.

We can say this since Gaban fought together with Rayleigh to rescue Shanks but this can also extend to fighting the Knights on God Valley much earlier.

While the Roger Pirates never fought Garling himself on God Valley, can the same remark be extended to the older Figarland?

This may not be proof but among the 12 people listed in Chapter 1121: “The Ebb and Flow of the Ages” as the ones who will hunt for the One Piece, three of them use Conqueror’s Haki.

Luffy and Shanks of the Four Emperors

Imu on the World Government side.

However, there are also potential candidates for strong or even Conqueror’s Haki.

Koby’s sudden Observation Haki awakening during the Paramount War is important since he is positioned as Luffy’s Marine rival and has expressed his intent to stop Luffy from obtaining the One Piece after hearing Vegapunk’s broadcast.

He could suddenly awaken Conqueror’s Haki like Luffy did on Sabaody.

Obviously, the two Admirals, Fleet Admiral Sakazuki and former Admiral Kuzan, are known for their strong Armament Haki.

Garling and Figarland have yet to show or even need Haki traits but each Knight of God is confirmed to have received Haki from Imu.

Blackbeard has yet to be confirmed as a Conqueror but given his bloodline, he might surprise audiences and that Oda intentionally hid this trait.

Otherwise, he would stand out thematically due to being an implied traitor of the Will of D.

Jarul has the soldiers try in vain to stop Harald from going after Loki and the Devil Fruit.

Another Dragon? What is Loki’s Legendary Devil Fruit?

As the squirrel Ragnir opens the chest, Loki takes out the Devil Fruit, which is small in his hand but considering that Luffy, a normal-sized human, was the size of his finger, it looks slightly bigger than the average Devil Fruit.

Loki consumes the fruit but his figure is obscured, although we can see he grows claws and is much, much bigger than even Jarul himself, who is close to Loki’s Ancient Giant size, when he reenters the throne room, all the while Ragnir celebrates, joyous at having found a worthy vessel.

Maybe Ragnir is just going to be Loki’s buddy forever but who knows.

We discuss this further in a different article.

Essentially, Loki very likely has the Lightning Dragon Nidhogg due to how Ragnir generates lightning and that unlike in Norse myth, the wyrm is not associated with lightning powers yet he is called such in Chapter 1142: “What I’m Afraid Of”

Loki would use the Devil Fruit’s power to take on his father, leaving behind severe injuries.

We even see the shadowy form of Loki’s Zoan form, which resembles a dragon with a more unique neck and face.

This would make Nidhogg different from the Eastern (Kaido) or Western dragon (Vegapunk’s artificial dragons) depictions.

Imu’s Inherited Will? Did Imu’s Haki Influence the First Twenty?

Seeing that Harald is constantly regenerating, Loki shifts back to his Giant form but before he attacks, Harald speaks to Loki, seemingly free from the brainwashing.

He remarks that the blood of a Conqueror flows within Loki.

So it confirms the old idea that since Conqueror’s Haki is a one in a million trait that no one can train for or forcibly unlock, it is inherited but it follows a different pattern, which is the One Piece core theme of “Inherited Will”.

The will of a Conqueror like Harald and his kingly bloodline give Loki and Harald the traits of kings that make them conquerors.

Loki is surprised to see his father sober up but Harald clarifies that he is beyond redemption, that he is not controlled but rather than the “thing inside him” (Imu’s Haki) is influencing his thoughts, making him view himself as a god.

Now this would make you ask if the original 20 Celestial Dragons, including the Nefertari Family, were directly influenced by Imu’s sense of being.

The self-perception of oneself as a god is something Imu would have but it feels so consistent among them after the Great War and after defeating the Sun God Nika that it became culture, rather than a product of having a part of a god wannabe in them.

One of the Most Emotional Final Moments

Harald imparts his final words, to lead Elbaph into the future and to get along with his older brother Hajrudin.

However, Loki despises his father for forcing him to end his own parent.

Harald brings up one thing: how Loki destroyed Alcohol Village.

It may not bring Ida back but it shows how much Loki did love her, so he appreciated the gesture.

Now Harald tells Loki to kill him once and for all as control is wrested from him.

Loki declares that he will forever hold a grudge over his father for making this do this but with all the emotion Loki is feeling, these words have one other meaning, as Harald says that he reciprocates what Loki felt.

His last words: “I love you too.”

Lightning strikes within Aurust Castle and we get one of the most amazing yet heartbreaking scenes in the current arc as Loki utterly destroys his father.

This scene feels like an anime frame.

Was Oda inspired by the current anime’s direction?

This lightning is further proof of new powers developed by the Devil Fruit Loki consumed, rather than his own Haki as the Conqueror’s Haki lightning also joined this flash of lightning to augment its strength to kill Harald.

And interestingly, Harald crumbles like glass.

As Loki cries over killing his own father, Harald thinks of the first time he sees Loki, even when Loki lost the ability to love.

Yet both in destroying Alcohol Village, out of love and grief for his stepmother Ida, and in killing his own out-of-control father, it was clear Loki was nothing but full of love.

Editor’s note: “Only memories last…”

Author’s comment: “I watched the Amy Winehouse movie and learned the meaning behind her song lyrics; it made me love her even more.”
