In the previous Sakamoto Days chapter, Shin is about to be cut down by Kei Uzuki’s Takamura personality.

Sakamoto Days Chapter 216 is titled, “Tunneling”

This chapter has 15 pages.

As some fans have noted, yeah Suzuki might need a break.

The most…expected outcome has happened and somehow, Shin does not get his neck cut in any lethal way.

Atari appears, grabs him and says that she made it just in time.

Shin wonders how he survived getting his neck sliced in half.

Here comes the answer.

Quantum Tunneling.

Apparently, it is a real-world phenomenon that has a near-zero but not totally zero chance of happening where particles move through an energy barrier stronger than they should be able to.

In other words, the superhuman strength of Takamura’s slashes were so strong that they actually slipped through Shin’s body without making any real contact with his particles.

Atari calls it a miraculous glitch in reality.

Shin wonders how this was possible since Atari only had a little luck left and apparently, this was how it gets used up.

Suzuki seems to have introduced the idea of Atari running out of luck as an open-ended thing, which makes Atari more of a plot device for Shin’s…continued involvement in the Sakamoto Days plot than as a character with her own journey.

The JAA Jail Arc was where Atari was introduced and it felt like we would have a character whose

By using up Atari’s luck, this also means that Shin’s luck has run out and he will go through a spiral of extreme bad luck.

He survived Takamura’s unavoidable slash and now has to contend with the new Order (Oki, Torres and Tanabata), including two X’s Organization’s members, Gozu and Kumanomi.

As it turns out, everyone came together by sheer coincidence, which is definitely that cosmic bad luck backlash at work.

Torres was surprised everyone ended up in the aquarium.

Oki wanted to spend time relaxing and comes to aquariums often as they are scientifically proven to have a calming effect.

Kumanomi came here because of a social media post she read about a baby seal named Shibukimaru being born here.

Gozu is surprised by the encounter, as if it was fated, since he was just passing by on the way to the bathroom.

What bathroom did he go to though?

Torres explains he was in the mood to come here as he was playing “Sea Story” and felt like smelling the ocean.

When Torres asked Tanabata, Tanabata does not reply but instead he monologues about how he does not need a reason to feel like visiting this particular aquarium and intends to turn this feeling into a song.

The new JAA are confused by what is going on, seeing Uzuki fight Shin and Atari.

Shin is horrified by this no-escape situation.

Not caring about the situation, Kumanomi uses her electromagnetic glove to bring in a whale exhibit towards Shin and Atari to kill them.

Torres then lunges his sand blasters, knocking Shin back.

Atari suggests that Shin kill her to end the bad luck streak but Shin stands up, saying that he swore to Sakamoto that he will protect everyone while he is picking himself up and that those who rely on luck are the first to die.

However, Oki points out that Shin is in a hopeless situation, surrounded by powerful enemies.

Shin looks for a way out of this death trap.

Editor’s note: “A gamble with everything on the line – right in the middle of the kill zone!!”

An additional note also says: “Can Shin survive this chaos and misfortune?! Find out next chapter!”

Oh no, Shin might activate a new power amidst being cornered even though he literally got lucky this chapter.

Or maybe Kindaka and Yotsumura might come to the rescue.

The latter would make more sense, which would make for another great battle but they would be clearly unmatched, even if we include Boiled and Heisuke in the mix.

A cool alternate possibility would be that Shishiba, Kamihate and/or Osaragi would recover and show up. Maybe even both groups.

The new Order vs the betrayed Order.

That being said, the note left behind at the end of the chapter is a typical tease on whether or not Shin would survive but this has already happened.

Atari makes the situation look like a massive deal.

Sakamoto Days Chapter 217 will be released on June 15, 2025.
