Uryu vs Yhwach At LAST! URYU IS TOP 10 STRONGEST! Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 47 Review!

In an unexpected move, Kubo redeems the entire Uryu storyline by massively upscaling Uryu Ishida as one of the top 10 strongest characters in Bleach

BLEACH © 2001-2016 by Tite Kubo/SHUEISHA Inc.

In the previous Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War episode, Uryu defeats the Balance, Jugram Haschwalth with his Antithesis but Yhwach reverses Orihime’s sacrifice and destroys Ichigo’s True Bankai alongside Renji, Rukia and the rest.

Chapters Adapted

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 47 is titled, “The End 2”

Just like Episode 45: “Defend You”, this is MOSTLY anime-original, adapting Chapter 679: “The End” (pages 15-17) and Chapter 680 (pages 1-7, 15-17), where the title is from for a total of 2 chapters and 13 pages

Given there are only 6 chapters of Bleach left, the remaining 4 episodes will add a lot of anime-original content to fill the gaps.

Anime Addition: THE BEST FAREWELL- Shunsui and Mimihagi

The episode begins with Shunsui dreaming in a dark dead place, which looks like his inner world, a world of guilt and depression to hang out with his waifu and daughter Zanpakuto Spirits.

This could probably be more of his guilt regarding his sister-in-law, aka Nanao’s mother, who was executed because of his promise to her.

But more importantly, a hand grabs Shunsui and it brings him to the world of Mimihagi, where he sees his buddy Jushiro Ukitake as a kid.

In the manga, their goodbye never happened.

Ukitake used Mimihagi and died 5 minutes later but in the anime, he lasted a FULL DAY holding together the Three Worlds, which was why Yhwach did not kill everyone ASAP with the power of God.

This pays off what the opening and ending showed.

Ukitake being in kid form could be his Bankai spirit bringing Shunsui to his own inner world since Mimihagi did extend his life when he was a child and even took on his form.

Which is why Ukitake has a dual Zanpakuto and two fish spirits in the Hell Arc.

Then we learn that Mimihagi actually shared a portion of its power to Shunsui. It was just living on his right hand so he could keep in touch with his bro for the time he was gonna dip.

This is also part of a gamble Ukitake had since he was gonna die anyway, a way to help stop Yhwach after he died, although he said it is as unlikely as getting a date with Mommy Unohana.

NEW LORE: Soken Ishida is Bleach’s Oppenheimer and Einstein

Meanwhile, Uryu looks at the giant red orb inside the Wahrwelt and we finally learn exactly what Uryu’s whole plan was.

So, his grandpa Soken was a member of the Wandenreich who escaped because he disagreed with the Vollstandig and Yhwach’s plans, hence why he gave his son Ryuken his diary and the Gate of the Sun key.

In the anime, he is 10 times more important to the plot.

Soken is actually Bleach’s Albert Einstein, a scientist who ran away from the Nazis to help the Allies, and he somehow created the Hogyoku

Well, almost.

The giant red orb is actually the Seed of Destruction, basically a nuke.

He combined the souls of every species in Bleach: human, Hollow, Soul Reaper, and Quincy, to trigger Soul Suicides, like what happened when Ichigo’s mom had White inside her or with the Vizards when they were Hollowfied by Aizen.

This chemical reaction of souls creates nuclear fusion that would destroy the Balance of Three Worlds and blow up the entire universe in one go.

But what Soken wanted was a deterrent, a controllable weapon that would quickly make the Soul Reapers bow down and submit to Wandenreich rule, all for a world where Quincies will be totally accepted.

The problem was that Soken could not figure out how to stabilize it but long ago or maybe around the same time since Soken is hella old, Kisuke Urahara and Sosuke Aizen found a workaround.

They both made Hogyokus through the same method without turning those tiny orbs into nuclear bombs.

In Aizen’s case, we learned from the Can’t Fear Your Own World novels that Rangiku and other Rukongai residents had pieces of the Soul King. The same could be said for Urahara, hence why their Hogyokus could “grant wishes”, warping reality like Gremmy, the Soul King’s Brain, and Yhwach’s the son of the Soul King.

But an unstable Hogyoku was exactly what Yhwach wanted

His war plan began by having his Quincy kill off millions of Hollows, triggering a Collapse event, which forced Mayuri to kill Rukon citizens to maintain Balance.

But see it was too late because Yhwach already punched a hole in the fabric of space, a bomb waiting to explode.

If the Seed of Destruction were to be dropped next to a massive distortion, it would destroy all Three Worlds at once, allowing Yhwach to return everything to the Primordial Chaos and end the cycle of life and death.

Seeing that he was tricked into making a nuke, Soken escaped and cooked up a plan to stop Yhwach.

He wanted to prepare an Alliance between Soul Reapers and Quincy

Basically the same thing as creating the Hogyoku but through mutually-assured cooperation, not destruction.

But no one listened to his proposal because Quincies were always destined to break the Balance no matter what and so he got merced and then sent to Mayuri to be a lab rat.

But ironically, this alliance actually happened and it is even better than he thought.

Nel saved Tier Harribel from Yhwach’s kinky dungeon with the help of her silly Fraccion. Man, we miss those guys.

Harribel was sus about Uryu being in enemy territory but then Shunsui comes in to calm everyone down.

ANIME REDEMPTION: Kubo FIXED Uryu’s Stupid Plan

This is where we finally get Uryu’s plan and Kubo, the madlad, somehow not only FIXED IT but even ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN.

In the manga, he just turned his Leiden Handt, the glove for Quincy Leits Stil, into Destruction Chips to blow up all of Wahrwelt.

This explains the poem image from last episode’s preview.

We thought the anime would scrap this but Kubo made a 5D chess move by using the same plot, except just destroy the bridges and drop the entire castle, with the Seed of Destruction, to the massive Distortion, then contain the multiversal explosion to prevent the Three Worlds from Collapsing.

But Uryu has one trick to improve his grandpa Soken’s plan, the Antithesis

For now, we see each person hold one of the Destruction Chips to set off to each of the five bridges.

A Quincy, two Hollow baddies and two Soul Reapers

Together, they form the first real Alliance of Three Worlds, exactly what Soken dreamed of when he made the atom bomb.

Rather than forcibly fusing the souls together for the sake of mutually-assured destruction, this Alliance was made to ensure mutually-assured cooperation.

This Alliance really changes everything we knew about Kubo’s plan for Uryu and for the Quincy in general.

All these wild, opposing characters, including Uryu himself, came together and became friends because of Ichigo and his desire to protect everyone.

The Alliance of Three Worlds

Akon mentioning a Senkaimon to Hueco Mundo was the first hint of this alliance coming to form in this cour.

We do see it when Akon opens up a Senkaimon and the Hollows from the Human World are rampaging like crazy, destroying their property.

Imagine the Rukon citizens seeing those rampaging Hollows out of nowhere or even seeing a Senkaimon be responsible.

That’s more paperwork for Kyouraku as Head Captain.

Rin even comments that this could be what the Rukon was made for, the excess space to contain more souls or even Hollows in the event of a Collapse of the Balance.

But the actual Alliance comes in during the present-day and it was set up by Soken Ishida during Uryu’s flashback in the very first arc of the series.

Soken wanted to prepare an Alliance between Soul Reapers and Quincy

Basically the same thing as creating the Hogyoku but through mutually-assured cooperation, not destruction.

But no one listened to his proposal because Quincies were always destined to break the Balance no matter what and so he got merced and then sent to Mayuri to be a lab rat.

But ironically, this alliance actually happened and it is even better than he thought.

Nel saved Tier Harribel from Yhwach’s kinky dungeon with the help of her silly Fraccion.

Since she got captured by Yhwach when he conquered Hueco Mundo, Harribel was sus about Uryu being in enemy territory but then Shunsui comes in to calm everyone down.

Since Nel is alive, it means that she did successfully retrieve Kisuke Urahara, Yoruichi Shihion and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez from Askin’s Gift Ball Deluxe

We also get their first canon interaction outside the light novel, “Can’t Fear Your Own World” that confirms their closeness.

Manga Canon: ICHIGO’S DESPAIR

But while everyone is hyped for Uryu’s plan, Yhwach reminds us that despair is here.

He finally absorbs Ichigo’s Hollow and Quincy powers, cutting off his last connection with his mother and destroying all of his hopes.

The use of greyscale was perfect here to hammer home that depressing loss.

Manga Improvement: COMPLETE BLACK AUSWAHLEN

And just like that, Gerard Valkyrie, the Miracle, gets his manga ending.

No Rangiku connection as a fellow Soul King part, no payoff to the weakness of the Heart of the Soul King.

Not even Rangiku interacting with adult form Toshiro, somehow not surprised to see him unlike Rukia and Renji.

Just to be beaten the same way in the manga: by another Miracle, the God of Bleach.

However, we at least know the final fate of Lille Barro as all of his clones were absorbed as well, rather than left alone in the realm of offscreened fights.

Something interesting to note is that the final Auswahlen resembling a floating halo, like a Quincy halo, was already depicted in the manga back in 2016, long before the anime revealed that true shape in 2023 via Cour 2’s Auswahlen.

The Auswahlen scene is a thing of beauty as it changes the color of the scene, the same way it did when Ichigo launched his Black Moon Getsuga Tensho in Episode 45.

We see how Gerard turns from bright yellow to light purple and it also turns the red and blue scenery of the Seireitei back to the morning colors from the previous day, which is good so that the fight against Aizen will look pretty.

In addition to Gerard, the black Auswahlen also consumes the Lille Barro clones that Izuru Kira fought in the Seireitei.

Alongside Mimihagi.

Shunsui had Mimihagi on his hand but this was actually part of Ukitake’s contingency plan.

Shunsui allowed Mimihagi to fly up alongside the Quincy and their Schrift.

Here’s the thing though.

Mimihagi is a Soul King part and the Almighty cannot see the future of Soul King parts.

Meaning Yhwach just absorbed a parasite inside his body that will activate at the right moment.

Which is when Uryu will fire the Still Silver Arrow without Yhwach noticing it coming.

Giving Ichigo the window he will need to finally finish off the Quincy King forever.

Maybe even beyond that.

Mimihagi could hide Ichigo’s Bankai being repaired by Orihime and Tsukishima, whose Book of the End is the opposite of the Almighty, or even the randomness of Aizen’s illusions before that.

Shunsui needs to be talked about alongside Aizen and Urahara as the top 5 smartest characters in Bleach and Ukitake is such an MVP.

Bleach would not have ended well without him.

Anime Fulfillment: The Espada Tres Duo

But while Yhwach is enjoying his dinner, Uryu makes the jump on him and he is not alone either.

Once the five branches of Wahrwelt were blown up, Tier Harribel and Nel show up to try and let the center castle crash into the distortion.

Remember, Harribel and Nel are both Number 3 Espadas, representing the concept of Sacrifice.

They were both ready to die alongside the nuke if it meant all three Worlds survive and they were flexing their Resurreccions hard on the Quincy King that he actually called Harribel the King of Hueco Mundo.

In the Bleach light novel, Can’t Fear Your Own World and extra material from Bleach: Official Character Book 3 UNMASKED, Harribel did become king but she was not the only ruler as Nel and Grimmjow worked together with her.

We know Grimmjow wants to be a King but he’s not really ruler material. He’s just a housecat who wants to make sure no one steals his food and house.

The Arrancar even repay their debt to Ichigo, as Pesche and Dondochakka rescue Ichigo and his friends before the castle is set to explode.

Can we talk about how Renji and Rukia got PUT BACK TOGETHER OFF-SCREEN.

Orihime still kept her BUFFED Rejection powers.

NEW FIGHT:  Uryu vs Yhwach

But the real star of the show is Uryu, who spent the entire series grappling with his identity as a Quincy, a Monk of Destruction whose whole existence is a threat to the Balance, yet he wanted a place to belong as the Last Quincy.

The Soul King was the original Quincy, so the Five Noble Families chopped him up into pieces to prevent him from killing too many Hollows or to be a threat to Shinigami rule.

Which is where Uryu comes in.

As if fate heard Soken’s prayer, his grandson Uryu was born with the power of Antithesis, a BROKEN SCHRIFT that allowed Uryu to be the only half-breed Quincy to survive the Auswahlen, which killed his mom and Ichigo’s mom to use their Quincy Reishi to revive Yhwach.

The Antithesis is a second letter A, meaning it is destined to be the Almighty’s match and in the manga, that never really went anywhere.

But Kubo decided to spend 4 years of anime rewriting Uryu’s story from square one.

In Cour 1, Uryu read Soken’s diary to figure out what to do, which explains why he joined Yhwach to begin with.

Also, that diary was the very first mention of the Soul King’s real name Adnyeus so you know Kubo had a long-term game plan with that foreshadowing.

In Cour 2, Yhwach threw the Medallion containing Yamamoto’s Bankai towards Ichibei, so that Uryu can have him swap places and escape the Life Cage, all to fight against Ichibei.

In Cour 3, Uryu finally reveals his Vollstandig, kills Senjumaru within and USING her own Bankai against her.

Then he uses that Vollstandig to fake Ichigo and Renji’s deaths to win some loyalty points with Yhwach.

In Cour 4, the current season, he does even more cool stuff by taking on Haschwalth in his Almighty form.

Combining the Almighty with the Soul King’s Black Reiatsu, this is Haschwalth’s equivalent to Vollstandig since Haschwalth cannot control Reishi like a normal Quincy.

He was moving like Sasuke in the War Arc, swapping people and he even had Haschwalth wear his glove to make him blow up, which ironically did the opposite of helping Uryu and instead helped Yhwach so that Yhwach can cancel AURAHIME’S Six Sacred Death Shields and come back to life along with Ichigo’s waifu.

But Uryu was not done yet.

Because Uryu’s Vollstandig makes the Antithesis the ALMIGHTY’S TRUE EQUAL

Earlier, we saw Uryu DESTROY Senjumaru using her own Bankai against her.

When he was tied up by her tapestries, Uryu awakened his Vollstandig and true power, swapping places with Senjumaru as he fired an arrow on her head.

We saw more of Uryu’s Vollstandig in the anime fight against Ichigo, where he basically has Senbonzakura Kageyoshi’s ability, except he turns his Reishi into arrowheads that fly with a wave of his hand.

He can turn them into a barrage of arrows, a barrier or an even bigger arrow.

Uryu’s MULTIVERSAL UPSCALE

When Uryu absorbed the reishi of Wahrwelt, which used to be the Soul King’s Palace, Uryu created the single largest ATTACK in all of Bleach

A Quincy arrow combined with Federzwinger, the same move that CANCELLED Renji’s True Bankai by draining all the Reishi of the target.

When the castle drops, Uryu fires the massive Federzwinger arrow to create enough force to push Yhwach’s castle to the black hole.

But we know Yhwach’s Almighty is gonna break that thing and then he’s gonna kill Uryu easy peasy

BUT NOPE.

Uryu literally said his Antithesis can SWAP ANY FUTURE with a different one.

So when Yhwach changed the future so the Federzwinger arrow is destroyed, Uryu simply pulled an uno reverse and let it respawn to push the castle down into the black hole.

If it wasn’t bad enough, bro even used Nel’s horn accessory inside Warhwelt to pull an Antithesis swap, putting Yhwach inside so he can blow up alongside the MULTIVERSAL BOMB.

And in Uryu’s most badass scene yet, Uryu activates Federzwinger to circle the nuclear bomb and tank the explosion so only the bomb and the black hole get erased from existence.

Let that sink in: Uryu, the MONK OF DESTRUCTION, saved the Three Worlds of Bleach through mutually-assured destruction, completely the Quincy storyline Kubo built up and revised for 25 years.

Since Uryu is the last Quincy and the only one with Vollstandig, this is gonna make him absolutely crucial in the MULTIVERSAL WAR against Hell.

Hell Bankai Kenpachi, Blood Chains Ichigo, and Antithesis Vollstandig Uryu are gonna carry the weak-ass new Gotei 13 because the OG Gotei 13 all have country-level Bankais in their lifetimes but now they are going to be even stronger in the Hell Arc, reaching the level of Yhwach’s Soul King power.

Plus we can say Uryu is canonically the ONLY CHARACTER IN BLEACH TO DESTROY THE HOGYOKU.

NEW LORE: All Schrifts Return to Yhwach to COMPLETE His Power

Yhwach says that he now has all the Schrifts of his Quincy children.

All those overpowered abilities that have been killing half of the Gotei 13 for the Thousand Year Blood War will now be used

In the ultimate battle against the most terrifying Shinigami, Sosuke motherfuckin Aizen.

This is CLEARLY setting up the reveal of Aizen’s Bankai in the anime

Some manga fans may be pissed Aizen doesn’t get to do in the actual manga but still, it would be crazy for Yhwach to have all those hax powers, the unstoppable Miracle, the Deathdealing’s perfect poison, the X-Axis’ intangibility and the Balance that breaks bankais.

And not use them against the most unpredictable character in all of Bleach.

“All people, imitations of apes,

All gods, imitations of people”

Interestingly, this poem is a reused one but it fits well with Aizen fighting against the literal god of Bleach

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 48 is titled, “The End Two World”

Based on the title of Chapter 682, this will likely cover Aizen’s fight against Yhwach before Ichigo’s arrival, as well as the repair of Ichigo’s Bankai and Renji’s revival.

This will be released on September 12, 2026
