In the previous One Piece chapter, we learn about Shanks’ ties to the Holy Knights and begin the Elbaph flashback with Harald’s wicked past.

One Piece Chapter 1153 is titled, “The Birth of Loki”

We continue with the Yamato cover story with Volume 37 of the Oni Child Yamato’s Golden Harvest Surrogate Pilgrimage as Yamato meets Kiku at Ringo as Kiku is now Daimyo of Ringo, thus completing the five Daimyos revealed in the cover story since Volume 10, consisting of 5 of the Akazaya Nine: Denjiro of Kibi, former Zou Duke Inuarashi of Kuri, Raizo of Udon, and Kawamatsu of Hakumai and now Kiku of Ringo.

Could Kiku, a transwoman, be the first female Daimyo of a region?

The chapter begins with Harald meeting Ida, who would eventually become Hajrudin’s mother.

He was upset in seeing a fellow Giant trapped in a circus and so he destroys the town to free her.

However, Ida tells him that the town actually saved her life and she was working with them to repay the kindness of the townsfolk.

This arc seems to be reminding people to sit down and stop judging people by their cover.

Maybe she would have been a much, much better mother to Loki than his own biological mother.

Harald felt guilt but he was also in love with Ida because of her kindness and so she brings her home.

Likely out of remorse for his violent ways, Harald chose to be a pacifist and modernized Elbaph because of Ida.

This included forging alliances with the outside world, which might have allowed Harald to meet the World Government.

Later on, Hajrudin was born, 81 years ago, so 20 years after Harald met Ida.

Harald wanted to marry the love of his life but the elders of Elbaph forbade him.

Beyond the expectations for a king to keep to tradition and Harald’s relative youth as a king, Elbaph being based on Norse mythology also meant that kings were likely obedient to the Thing, the assembly of the people, even when there was a royal family.

So the elders chose another woman, Estridd, who was of pure Elbaph descent and was obsessed with omens.

This led to her terrible action, as when she gave birth to Loki, she threw him due to his eerie slit-like eyes.

This is why even in flashbacks, Loki’s eyes were bandaged. No one wanted to see his eyes.

This sounds similar to Charlotte Pudding, the Elbaph-exiled Big Mom’s daughter, whose third eye was disliked even by her own mother and hiding it led to much childhood trauma.

Being thrown out as a baby, Loki was surrounded by fallen beasts in the Underworld and tried to climb the Adam Tree to return home.

With slit-like eyes akin to a snake or an evil being, could Loki have any connection a serpent-like creature, like the Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr (who in Norse mythology is Loki’s son and a creature made from Killingham’s MMAs in Chapter 1142: “What I’m Afraid Of” ) or even the Serpent of Hellfire in Elbaph’s Harley in Chapter 1138: “The Harley”?

We will have to wait and see.

It is a shame though, both brothers judged each other for the wrong reasons.

Loki’s pranks were from a trauma due to being abandoned by his mother while Hajrudin was judged for having a mother who could never be accepted by Elbaph.

Yet if Loki was raised by Ida, a loving, kind woman, things would have been different for the country.

Then again, he would probably be much shorter like Hajrudin was.

Unfortunately, there will be a BREAK NEXT WEEK. One Piece Chapter 1154 will be released on July 14, 2025.
