In the previous One Piece chapter, the Holy Knights overwhelm the Straw Hats and Giants, revealing themselves to be immortals, and apparently involved with the former King of Elbaph, Harald.

Chapter 1147 is titled, “Things That We Fear”

This chapter has 15 pages.

The title is similar to Chapter 1142, which ended with Gunko expressing his greatest fear being Nika, so will Luffy meet Gunko in this chapter?

We are now on Ogre Child Yamato’s Golden Harvest Surrogate Pilgrimage, Volume 32, where we see Raizo feeding Yamato some onigiri after defeating Who’s-Who. In the cover, we also see Tama hugging Baize.

Are the Straw Hats Not Ready At All For the Final War?

The chapter shows us a flashback of what happened before Sommers attacked Robin.

Saul tells Robin that the God Knights are immortal, which could only mean that, like Usopp, Saul’s Haki attacks were able to actually destroy Sommers’ body but no attack could wipe them out completely as they would simply regenerate like the Five Elders.

Saul tells Robin and Chopper to hide behind his hair, which shows that this is the full context behind the last scene of Chapter 1146.

We cut to the scene of Gunko capturing the Straw Hats.

This is quite unfortunate to see as the Straw Hats without the Monster Trio were barely able to stop Gunko from taking Colon or even able to do any harm to her.

Even with Jinbei with them, they were clearly outmatched by Gunko’s divine power and Jinbei here is looking for a way to stop this immortality.

A Fishman with Haki, he has two methods that can nullify Devil Fruits but if the immortality is from a Haki-based devil’s contract with Imu, then it is possible that Conqueror’s Haki is the solution.

After all, Joy Boy’s knot was able to send back the Five Elders to Mariejois and it made Imu tremble with fear.

Perhaps the ancient ways of Haki might be uncovered during Elbaph as a means to fight God’s Knights, beings that not even the mighty Giant Warriors were able to do any harm to.

Recognizing him from the music she listened to (New World), Gunko offers to make Brook her music slave.

She is not a fan of Brook but sees him and music as mere objects to be used for her personal pleasure as a spoiled Celestial Dragon brat.

Brook apologizes to the young lady, telling her that ever since Luffy saved him on Thriller Bark, he has sworn his loyalty to him.

Gunko threatens to kill Brook but Brook says that it is better to die with honor than live a life without dignity.

Fittingly, Brook does not make another one of his skeleton jokes, which means this is quite a serious declaration.

Unfortunately, Brook does not say the line of Luffy becoming the Pirate King here.

That being said, this is a good moment for the character.

Gunko kicks Brook away.

The World Government Fears Education

With a Den Den Mushi, Sommers tells Gunko to let the Straw Hats go because this is not their job and they do not want trouble with a Yonko (Luffy).

Luffy’s reputation saves his crew rather than the crew saving themselves.

As Sommers rides on a snake made with thorns, he announces to the people of Elbaph that they have their children and will only return them if the Giants destroy their libraries and schools.

This is one of the most insidious declarations ever made.

You can see how the World Government is threatened by education.

Ever since the Enies Lobby Arc revealed the existence of the Void Century, we have seen how the World Government fears anyone learning about history beyond textbooks and media, both things controlled and censored by them.

But for the World Government to directly target the concept of education in order to create obedient Giant mercenaries has brought them even lower.

Mother Carmel was their supplier of trafficked Giant children and with her gone, they no longer have an advantage over the rest of the world, so this is clearly a sign of Imu and God’s Knights being quite desperate and that Harald, even as an ally of the World Government, was working behind their backs by providing hope to the people of Elbaph.

This makes Loki’s involvement with Harald’s death even more dubious, as so far he has not actually condemned Harald or his reforms.

Even with Colon joining the kids, he is unable to escape the line because of the monsters surrounding them.

Will Robin Learn Haki?

The Great Eirik then crashes down as the Giant Warrior Pirates face MMAs (Killingham’s dream monsters) that resemble their wives and the Giants are too scared to fight them.

Glad this happened to confirm that Dory, Brogy, Kashii and Oimo were married but also sad that their wives waiting so long for their returns.

Maybe that is why they were afraid. Does it mean those women are dead? How dark.

Anyway, we see Gaban reunite with his wife Ripley, with Ripley asking him to rescue their son.

Gaban heads off to find Colon while at the same time, Robin comes out and prepares for fight as both characters say that they refuse to let the God’s Knights have their way.

Are we sure Elbaph is Usopp’s arc? Because this arc has been giving highlights to Franky and Robin more than it does Usopp.

Robin sees that her dear friend Saul is hurt protecting them and Elbaph and that Elbaph will meet the same fate as Ohara if the very knowledge Robin, her mother, her friend, her fellow Ohara archaeologists and Vegapunk sacrificed so much to protect will be destroyed, so now she is determined to stop the God’s Knights.

Will we see that willpower blossom into some sort of new ability?

This intersection could imply that Robin will meet Scopper Gaban for the first time and there could be a possibility of Robin fighting alongside him, maybe even reveal Haki somehow but this is quite far off to imagine.

She does know a lot about Haki as she commented on Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki in Fishman Island and Luffy fighting against the Logia user Caesar Clown on Punk Hazard.

Unfortunately, having seen all her battles, there is no proof that Robin has the ability to use Haki.

Something might be needed to provoke that.

Haki can be known to awaken in times of duress but also in unexpected moments, even without any experience or awareness in Haki.

Luffy used the rare conqueror’s Haki just to stop the giant bull Iron Mask Duval rode on during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc.

Usopp awakens Observation Haki while aiming for Sugar on Dressrosa,

So it is possible that Robin might awaken Haki, rather than learn it in battle while fighting with Gaban.

It’s one thing to be a master of Haki but another to teach it as Rayleigh was an ideal teacher.

With Armament Haki or even Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, Robin’s Hana Hana no Mi would be one of the deadliest Devil Fruits in existence.

Due to Golden Week, One Piece will be on break next week.

One Piece Chapter 1148 will be released on May 4, 2025.
