Will Hunter x Hunter Release 20 Chapters For the 2026 Batch?

Hunter x Hunter could see its first double batch release since 2011.

On May 26, 2026, Hunter x Hunter author Yoshihiro Togashi has announced that he has sent Chapter 421 to the Weekly Shonen Jump editorial department.

This is a surprising move as Hunter x Hunter normally releases only batches of 10 chapters since 2007, which is done to provide a volume’s worth of content for every year there is a release set for the series.

Just like Berserk’s 9-month hiatus resulting in the release of 3 consecutive chapters, fans might see this as making the 2-year hiatus from 2024 to 2026 worth it.

This is not the first time since the new schedule that there would be more than 10 chapters in a batch release.

From August 11, 2011 (Double Issue 35-36 of 2011) to March 19, 2012 (Issue 16 of 2012), there were a total of 30 chapters released uninterrupted to conclude the Chimera Ant Arc (Chapter 186 to 318), complete the 13th Hunter Association Chairman Election Arc and start the current Succession Contest Arc in one go, from Chapter 311: “Action” to Chapter 340: “Special Mission”.

Batch Schedule Explained

Hunter x Hunter was first released on March 2, 1998, following the weekly schedule of Weekly Shonen Jump.

However, following a hiatus in February 18, 2006, Togashi returned on October 7, 2007, following a consistent schedule of releasing 10 chapters in a given year.

This is the beginning of the batch release schedule, with three close batch releases.

First, from October 6 (Issue 45) to December 10, 2007 (Issue 2 of 2008), we got Chapters 261: “Charge, Part 1” to Chapter 270: “Indebted To”, as the start of the Palace Invasion segment of the Chimera Ant Arc.

This followed by the second batch release on March 10 (Issue 14) to May 26, 2008 (Issue 24) with Chapter 271: “Separation” to Chapter 280: “Direct Hit”.

In the same year was the third batch release on October 6 (Issue 45) to December 8, 2008 (Issue 2 of 2009), with Chapter 281: “Godspeed” to Chapter 290: “Name” giving 2008 a total of 20 chapters at the tail end of Netero vs. Meruem.

The only time Hunter x Hunter got a consecutive stream of 20 chapters was in 2010 with the double Issue 5-6 on January 21, 2010 to May 31, 2010 (Issue 26), with Chapter 291: “”Zero x and x Rose” to Chapter 310: “Action” as the Chimera Ant Arc nears its end.

The 30-chapter spree was the most recent of its kind and continued from the first four batch releases.

The longest hiatus the series went through was from December 3, 2018 to October 17, 2022 for a total of 3 years and 10 months.

Progress on Manuscripts

With the submission of Chapter 421, we can track the progress of the manuscript based on Togashi’s tweets.

Chapters 422 to 427 had their background art and dialogue specifications completed, meaning the manuscript is nearly done.

Chapters 428 to 430 have been inked but without background art or dialogue added as of April 8, 2026, which showed an illustration of Kurapika and Sailor Mars from Sailor Moon to show their similar birthdays.

If the upcoming chapters will be released as two consecutive batches or volumes, this would be the first time in 15 years, the exact amount of time since the start of the current arc, which has been ongoing for 70 chapters.
