The official Billboard JAPAN website revealed its annual charts for 2023 on Dec 8, 2023, and YOASOBI’s “Idol” topped the following Billboard JAPAN 2023 categories:

  • Artist 100
  • JAPAN Hot 100
  • Hot Animation
  • Download Songs
  • Streamings Songs
  • Top User Generated Songs No.1

It’s a huge achievement for the group, considering the list consists of songs from November 28, 2022 to November 26, 2023 and we’ve seen numerous hits in that period.

The song, which serves as the opening theme for the TV anime “Oshi no Ko,” achieved an unprecedented record of 21 consecutive weeks at the top of the charts, from its first appearance at the top of the charts on April 19 to September 6, a total of five months.

Although it lost the top spot to Snow Man’s ‘Dangerholic’ in the chart released on September 13, it has remained at the top since then and has never dropped below No. 4 overall, renewing its mega-hit record.

According to the Billboards JAPAN website, “Idol” has been streamed a total of 527,143,965 times, with 148,838,759 video views and 509,751 downloads, ranking first in all.

In terms of other indicators, it was ranked 1st in radio, 3rd in karaoke, and 94th in singles, making it the undisputed overall leader, achieving a total of four titles.

This is followed by the fact that Idol became the most streamed song in Japan (2023) on Spotify and topped the Billboard Global charts.

What’s more, YOASOBI isn’t just known for Idol in this year. Among the two anime theme songs that YOASOBI has contributed in the past year, “Shukufuku” (the opening theme for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) remains ranked fifteenth on the overall listings and has maintained a position within the top one hundred since its digital release in October of last year.

Since its release in October of this year, “Yusha” (the opening theme for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) has maintained its position in the top ten of the rankings, where it peaked at #81.
