Oshi No Ko’s Opening Theme Idol By YOASOBI Is Japan’s Most Played Song In 2023

The JASRAC (Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers) announced the winner of the ‘JASRAC Award’ for the most listened to and sung songs in 2023, including music streaming and karaoke.

And that award goes to “Idol” by YOASOBI, popularly known as the opening theme song of Oshi No Ko Season 1!

According to JASRAC, about 70% of the distribution for “Idol” came from subscription services that distribute music on the Internet for a fixed fee, and “interactive distribution” through video viewing.

Ayase of YOASOBI, who wrote the lyrics and music for ‘Idol’, delivered a message at the presentation ceremony for the ‘JASRAC Award’.

“I’m very honored that ‘Idol’ has received the JASRAC Award. In recent years, YOASOBI has been blessed with many new encounters and changes in our activities, but I believe that it is without a doubt this song that has allowed us to push forward this far. I am truly happy that the song has become one that so many people love. It is the greatest reward for a composer. About Oshi No Ko:

Oshi no Ko is a Japanese manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020, with its chapters collected in thirteen tankōbon volumes as of November 2023.

Between April and June 2023, Doga Kobo produced the first season, consisting of eleven episodes. In 2024, a second season is scheduled to premiere.
