Kagurabachi Anime’s First Teaser Cements Its Spot As 2027’s Best Anime
It is no longer a meme! The Kagurabachi anime is finally real! Kagurabachi’s production looks insane, with a legendary animator from classic Naruto’s best fight and an experienced character designer for the shonen action scene.
On April 27, 2026, as expected, Jump Press 2026 has announced the release of the Kagurabachi anime.
Ever since its production was greenlit in December 2, 2024, many fans have been eagerly waiting for any update on the anime.
Now, after more than a year, we finally have our first trailer.
Beginning with Kunishige forging metal, the trailer shows the events of Chapter 1: “Mission”, where we have our first look at the visuals and setting, as we see Chihiro hunt down yakuza and the Sorcerers responsible for the death of his father.
An excellent cut showing Chihiro’s usage of Enten, represented by bubbles and the floating black goldfish Kuro, which is also represented in the key visual.
Chihiro Rokuhira will be voiced by Taihi Kimura, who only gained prominence starting in 2025, with Nippon Sangoku and Liar’s Game being his most prominent roles this year.
Furthermore, there will be a World Tour for Kagurabachi, showing the first 20 minutes of Episode 1 in Japan this Summer, implying the first episode will be around 40 minutes long and could adapt the first two chapters.
Kagurabachi will be released on April 2027, exactly a year from now.
Staff List:
Director: Tetsuya Takeuchi (Naruto, Sword Art Online II, Heavenly Delusion)
Character Design: Keigo Sasaki (Seven Deadly Sins, Blue Exorcist, Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray)
Animation Production: CYPIC (formerly Cygames Pictures, Uma Musume, The Summer Hikaru Died)
While his primary experience with series direction comes from shows like “From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated” (2025), many more fans know him as the animator behind Rock Lee vs Gaara from the original Naruto anime, with Episode 48 airing on September 3, 2003, with its incredibly fluid 2D animation.
Considering that one of Kagurabachi’s primary influences is Naruto, a manga that the author Takeru Hokazono is a huge fan of, it feels like the production committee chose him on purpose for the role.
Recently, he was responsible for some cuts in Yuji vs Choso of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, among many others.
Not only that but Takeuchi has much experience in the industry, having been an animator for the 1997 film, Neon Genesis Evangelion: End of Evangelion, along with being a key animator and episode director for Sword Art Online and Heavenly Delusion.
This experience with animation will be important to make a frenetic, high-cotane manga with excellent action like Kagurabachi into one of the liveliest action series out there.
Comments
From the director, Tetsuya Takeuchi:
“Who would’ve thought that I’d be directing a popular Shonen Jump anime after working as a key animator on Naruto back when I was just a newbie…you really never know what life has in store. When you think of Kagurabachi, you think of katana! And more katana! Plus cool characters and intense drama! I’ll work hard to capture all those elements and aim to make a show that both long-time fans of the manga and first-time viewers alike can enjoy!”
From the character designer, Keigo Sasaki:
“Hokazono-sensei’s art style is really cool, and I couldn’t wait to see his drawings come to life! I jumped into the design process with nothing but that feeling in mind, but it’s been an uphill battle.
It’s hard… but when I manage to draw something well, it makes me that much happier! The staff and I are working hard every day, and I feel so lucky to be able to participate in this project.
I’ll do my absolute best so that everyone can enjoy the anime.”
From the author, Takeru Hokazono:
“In Naruto, the fight between Lee and Gaara, both the original manga and especially the anime depiction, was incredibly cool, right?
The person who worked on that scene is the director for this project! Let’s go!
The staff are also amazing people, and they’ve really studied the original work closely!
I’m excited to see what kind of visuals this will become! Watch it!”
