Is There An Imposter Among Us? Kagurabachi Chapter 136 Spoilers!

Is Shurin a double agent or the Mikaboshi’s biggest fanatic? Who will be his main opponent among the Blade Wielders?

KAGURABACHI © 2023 by Takeru Hokazono/SHUEISHA Inc.

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, the Seitei War finally begins, with the Six Mikaboshi Guardians in attendance.

Kagurabachi Chapter 136 is titled, “Mikaboshi”

This chapter has 15 pages.

Editor’s note: “A Sorcery Bureau member taken captive?!”

This is not just any member.

It is one of the leaders of the Sorcery Bureau, the older man with the glasses, trapped in a bit of centipedes and other toxic insects like a kodoku ritual where the surviving insect absorbs the poison of the others.

It is also possible this is how the Mikaboshi gain strength as well while ordinary humans suffer as food for the poison bugs.

The leader recalls how he was captured while on a ship during the early stages of the Seitei War.

He wonders how long he has been trapped here and spots his Mikaboshi guard.

He recalls how the Mikaboshi were exiled alongside their servants and dependent clans, implying a difference of levels of purity among the Mikaboshi.

The pureblooded Mikaboshi have black eyes cracks around them and black nails and that translates to the strongest affinity to the Datenseki, so the leader’s guard was a high-ranking soldier, with the strongest members becoming part of the Six Guardians who contained a “holy venom” and were capable of turning the southeastern coast of Japan into ruins.

Currently, the Mikaboshi are closing in on Tokyo.

We then meet the Six Guardians.

Ariu Mikaboshi, the Crown Prince

Bansoro Mikaboshi, a man wearing a breathing mask

Ra Mikaboshi, the only female member with a crazed demeanor.

Yukifu Mikaboshi, a frustrated, serious, neurotic male member.

Zukon Mikaboshi, a smiling but matter-of-fact male member.

And, Shurin Mikaboshi, a masked member and Ariu’s younger brother.

In spite of their success in reaching Tokyo, they have yet to hear of the stolen Datenseki or the Soga Princess Chiaki.

Zukon points out that in spite of Japan’s many losses and losing the southeastern region to the Mikaboshi, Japan shows no signs of handing over any of the demanded items.

Zukon also noticed that over the past week, there have been some unusual activity within their own territory, with his squadron seeing it unfold.

There was only one subordinate, with Ra wondering if he is the only one as Zukon confirms everyone else died.

Furthermore, Bansoro notes that if they follow Ariu’s words, the four Sorcerers sent to Irishima were Japan’s best.

Indeed, considering they sent the leader of the Soga Clan Hiroto and the second strongest Soga, that is saying something.

The subordinate brings in a tanto, which as it turns out is a prototype Enchanted Blade not designed for actual combat

Yukifu is angered by this revealed, not wanting to take this lightly due to how the Datenseki is their god and that they offered their blood and prayers, having a deeper connection to it than the Japanese who suddenly found a way to weaponize it within less than a year since its discovery.

Shurin reveals that it is custom to make a shorter sword as a prototype to understand the real thing’s effectiveness, confirming that the sword they found is only a mere prototype.

Zukon is amazed that Shurin knows a lot about Japanese swords, to which Shurin says that he is just fascinated by them.

This fascination could be a hint he is a double agent, given his masked persona and, as we later see, his constant need to affirm his Mikaboshi identity.

However, the existence of a prototype and the lack of actual fighting and preference to guerilla and spying tactics implies they have enough supply to make more actual blades.

Shurin leaves, taking the Datenseki tanto with him.

While Yukifu complains, Ra is a bit concerned that Shurin does not show his face to the rest of the Six Guardians after a certain incident, indicating everyone in that room has seen his true face.

As he scratches behind the back of his head, we see his light-colored hair come out.

In his room, he paints his chipped nails with spider’s blood, which somehow sticks for the day as black nail polish.

He must be raising and killing a lot of spiders to maintain his appearance, at least for his fingernails.

As he enters the Sorcery Bureau leader’s prison, Shurin causes the bugs to move aside with Sumika and asks the man what he feels about this.

The leader admits embarrassment does not phase him anymore.

However, this is not the case for Shurin, as he shows his true face to the prisoner and to the guard next to him.

The real reason Shurin masks himself is not because he does not want people to know the truth, since they already do know he is albino.

Instead, it is the shame he constantly feels that he is set apart from the other Mikaboshi, as if his birth makes him undeserving of his position as a Mikaboshi, so he has to prove his purity through his actions.

Shurin cuts the leader’s left arm and offers to heal him with Sumika as many times as it takes, as long as he will be satisfied with the latter’s answers.

Essentially, this is torture to extract answers about the Enchanted Blades.
