Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s First Original Ending Theme Stirs Massive Controversy
Beyond changing tradition after the death of a notable producer, the new ending calls into question Warner Bros. integrity behind the scenes.
On September 25, 2026, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run has released its 2nd episode, titled, “The Sheriff’s Request for Mountain Tim”, which was also the first showing for the anime opening and ending.
While fans universally praised the opening by Kroi, with animation from Kamikaze Douga like most of the anime’s openings,
Titled, “Dead or Alive”, the song was sung by rapper Yuki Chiba, a relative unknown in the industry.
Many fans expressed disappointment not only in the broken tradition but also in the poor quality of the song and its visuals.
However, what stained this ending the most is the involvment of Dr. Luke (real name: Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald) as the lyricist and producer of the song, who previously had a harassment case filed by Kesha in 2014.
Although Kesha and Dr. Luke reached a settlement in 2023, he remains a black spot in the industry, being “demanding” and “hard to work with” according to Kelly Clarkson and P!nk, as well as allegations of ghostwriting and his legal team’s aggressive tactics to bring down other major pop stars into the mud.
Furthermore, the official JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Instagram account has limited comments on its post announcing the ending.
One cause of this change in the death of Hiroyuki Omori on June 16, 2024.
Omori an executive producer from Warner Bros. Japan for Parts 1-6 and the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan OVAs who provided the anime’s vision, most notably acting as the music producer for the series by asking for Hirohiko Araki’s input on the types of licensed songs to use for the ending theme.
With the loss of this producer, it was clear there have been a lot of changes to the vision of Jojo’s, with this new ending being evidence
