Dragon Ball fans, we’re going to fest in this year’s October! On Saturday, Bandai Namco revealed that DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO game, the successor to the Budokai Tenkaichi series, will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on October 11, 2024.

A new trailer was revealed during the Summer Games Fest on June 8, 2024, showcasing the first glimpse of Ultra Instinct Goku in the game, along with Gohan (Adult), Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, Golden Frieza, Bardock, Raditz, Goku Black, Zamasu, and Jiren (Full Power).

The game has different editions which are explained as follows:

  • The Standard Edition
  • Digital Deluxe Edition: This comes with the Standard Edition, three days of early access to the game, and the Season Pass that unlocks stuff and has over 20 characters, including those from Dragon Ball Super Super Hero and Dragon Ball Daima. There’s also early access to DLC characters.
  • Digital Ultimate Edition: Includes both the Deluxe Edition material plus the Ultimate Upgrade Pack, which consists of two player card backgrounds, an Emote Voice Set, a Customization item, and a Goku (Super) Costume with Power Pole. Super Shenron can be summoned in this version in order to unlock characters or items.
  • Collector’s Edition: Includes all of the information from the Digital Ultimate Edition plus a Metallic Bookmark and an exclusive DRAGON BALL: Sparkling! ZERO diorama.
  • Premium Collector’s Edition: Includes all Collector’s Edition content, a SteelBook, and four unique cards from the Fusion Worlds of the Dragon Ball Super Card Game, and is only available on the Bandai Namco Store.

Furthermore, the makers of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has confirmed to be releasing 3 DLCs so far. One contains events from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, featuring the Gammas and the other will contain characters from the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima series! The 3rd DLC hasn’t been revealed yet.

The game will also have different modes and storylines, including What-Ifs where the player can create their own dream battles with their favorite characters and they can share those what-ifs to others in the online mode.

For instance, the trailer itself showed two story-scenarios:

  • What If Goku decided to go fight Raditz alone and Krillin joined him
  • What If Great Ape Vegeta killed Krillin and Goku went Super Saiyan
  • What If Perfect Cell didn’t kill Future Trunks

The story mode will have a “choose-your-own-adventure” style feature, so you can choose if you want to go the original story route or a new what-if route at some points.

About Dragon Ball:

Dragon Ball is a manga series by Akira Toriyama. It first began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1984.

The manga was later adapted into a multitude of animated series, movies, and games.

The franchise consists of five different anime series, about 21 animated movies, and around 10 games spanning various platforms, from Famicon to Playstation and Xbox.

Synopsis of the Dragon Ball anime:

The story of Dragon Ball follows the life of Son Goku, a monkey-tailed boy loosely based on the traditional Chinese folk tale Journey to the West, from his life and adventures as a child all the way up to being a grandfather.

During his life, he fights many battles and eventually becomes (arguably) the strongest martial artist in the universe.

He is not without help, however: the comic boasts a large ensemble cast of martial artist heroes and villains which provide the conflict that drives the story.
