On June 4, the government of Taichun City, China, held a ceremony to honor 17 people who helped suppress a knife attack on the Taichung MRT on May 21.

Among them was a long haired Otaku, Hsu Jui-hsien, who attended the ceremony wearing a special collaboration jacket from the video game Monster Hunter.

While being honored, Hsu quoted a classic line from the popular anime Freiren: Beyond Journey’s End, saying, “If it were Hero Himmel, he would definitely do the same.”

Hsu said that this line is also his motto in life, encouraging him to do the right thing. He added that if he ever goes through a similar incident again, he will still do the same thing.

He also shared that the reason he wore the special Monster Hunter collaboration jacket was in hopes of removing the stigmatization of Otaku that began after the Zhen Jie incident ten years ago.

Additionally, he also wore the same canvas he wore during the Taichun MRT attack, which still had blood stains on it.

He explained that although the blood stain couldn’t be removed, they were still comfortable, so he didn’t bother to clean them.
