Attack on Titan “Successor” Series To End In the Next Volume
Fungus and Iron will be ending this year with 10 volumes and an anime coming soon.
On April 18, 2026, it has been announced that the dystopian science fiction manga, “Fungus and Iron” by Ayaka Katayama, former assistant to Attack on Titan author, Hajime Isayama, will end in the next Volume 10 after a 5-year run.
This means the series will end around Chapter 52 or 53, as most volumes, except the first two (Volume 1 had four chapters, Volume 2 had six), are made up of 5 monthly chapters.
Volume 9 has been released on April 9, 2026, which comprises of Chapter 44 to Chapter 48.
The cover features the main antagonist of the series, the Doctor, the vessel of the Amigasa fungus that controls the world.
While not announced, Volume 10 will be released on October 9, 2026, with the final chapter likely out this August 9th.
On March 4, 2026, this series was announced to have an anime in production.
Further details have not been laid out.
Fungus and Iron was written for Kodansha’s monthly magazine, Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, the same magazine as Attack on Titan, where Katayama once worked as Isayama’s assistant.
This tells the story of Dante, a human who has escaped the control of the Amigasa mushroom that rules the world and controls human brains, and joins the rebel group Ether.
