Asta and Yuno SURPASS Lucius’ Godly Power!!! Black Clover Chapters 377 and 378 Review!
The final battle of Black Clover has begun in earnest as Asta and Yuno try to one-up each other to see which power prevails against Lucius Zogratis!
In the previous Black Clover chapters, Yami awakens his Devil form through the Yami Clan’s Kikongan and together with his sister Ichika and Nacht, they defeat the revived Morgen.
For the Jump GIGA Winter 2025 issue, we get two Black Clover chapters from Yuki Tabata and they might get up the climax of the series.
Black Clover Chapter 377 is titled, “Clash”
This chapter has 21 pages, including the color page.
The color spread features Yuno and Asta in plain white shirts with their hands outstretched, Asta’s notably being in red.
This might be a reference to Opening 6: “Rakugaki Peiji”, where both characters also stretched out their hands in their signature light green and red colors.
Notice the feathers going around and we also see that Asta bears a shocked expression, likely indicating a sacrifice is coming soon.
Yuno could lose his arm and make one made of his greenish mana and Asta has already gained this arm from Liebe.
Is Tabata Rushing To The End?
Editor’s note: “In the fierce battle of the mages of Clover Kingdom, the tides turn!!”
With the defeat of the strongest Paladin, Morgen, the tides now turn in favor of the Clover Kingdom.
The chapter begins with the highest-ranked devil Adramelech expressing surprise that the Paladins have been defeated.
Damnatio, Morris, Acier, now Morgen have now fallen, leaving only the Guardian Angels and Lucius clones, which the previous set of chapters have proven to be barely as strong as the original, in spite of them possessing Lucius’ Magic attributes.
The Anti-Magic empowered Black Bulls charge towards the Lucius clones.
Notably, Grey and Vanessa work together, Gauche, Chammy’s Black Sheep, Zora’s Trap Magic and Secre’s Sealing Magic.
We also have Charlotte’s Briar Magic at work.
Adramelech wonders if Lucius foresaw all of this with his Time Magic and what his next move would be.

For how strong and seemingly unstoppable Lucius was for most of the final arc, the Paladins were indeed quite beatable.
We cut to Asta and Yuno heading together to fight the real Lucius as Yuno asks Bell about Neverland’s time limit.
Belle gives the boys Chammy’s food to boost their mana reserves for the final fight, which Belle begrudgingly thanks her for.
They both enter his throne room, where Lucius waits for them.
This is likely inspired by Ichigo and Orihime entering the final Bleach villain, Yhwach’s throne room, in Chapter 672: “Son of Darkness”.
Lucius’s throne room is less ornate since behind it is the tree holding his three siblings, the source of his complete powers over Soul, Blood, Body, and Bone Magic.
As the two parties confront each other, Asta notes that he may not be sure if Lucius’ world is good or evil but then he asks about why the Paladins had regrets in spite of being “true and happy humans”.
Lucius smugly says that Asta is the reason people get hurt since he is a flaw in the world, the only being without Magic.
Yuno rejects Lucius statement, seeing him not as a god who wants true peace for humans but a human who is displeased when things do not go his way.
A self-righteous bastard.
This statement seems to irritate Lucius, which might show that he hates his humanity in spite of claiming that humans are the master race.
This could stem from being in a wheelchair for most of his young adult life, until he was able to leave for the Clover Kingdom through Julius.
Lucius sees no point in further conversation and proceeds to activate his magic to eliminate the two threats.
He no longer assumes the stuffy cloak of his original form, which his clones bear too and now he has eight wings.
Previously, he had six wings, indicating that the days of rest and preparation, including Judgment Day itself, have empowered him to this point.
Yuno and Asta charge and power through Lucius’ magic blast, preparing for the final battle.
Yeah, I am seeing Bleach flashbacks with this final battle, except it has two fighters against the evil godlike villain.
The leaks have only released 13 of the 19 pages of actual chapter content yet barely anything new was revealed with this official release.
What will the next chapter hold?
The Healthiest Rivalry is the Best One
Black Clover Chapter 378 is titled, “Friction”
This chapter has 19 pages.
The entire chapter is a battle that displays the strength of animanga’s healthiest rivalry.
After punching Asta, Lucius combines Body Compression, Jets of Blood, and Bone Bullets for a widespread projectile attack that Asta blocks with his sword.
As their battle speeds up, Lucius notices how Asta and Yuno, as the Anti-Magic user and the Wind Spirit Magic user beloved by mana respectively, are complete opposites and even completely obstruct each other yet somehow work so well together.
Yet Lucius realizes too late that they are not working together seamlessly but learning from the other on how to create a stronger attack.
This feels like a genius vs prodigy moment akin to Blue Lock, except power fantasy shonen.
Asta the prodigy is using his Anti-Magic to create new “plays”, following up on the genius Yuno, whose “plays” are considered the highest standard of mana and the cycle repeats itself throughout the fight.
This approach is a form of teamwork in Black Clover as it keeps Lucius from knowing their next move with his Time Magic, which results in Lucius’ first fall as Asta leaves a gash on his torso, exposing his chest, and Yuno uses Saint Spirit of Boreas to pummel to the ground, finishing this stage of the fight.
As the two rivals praise each other, the background changes.
Predictions
With us now in the final battle, you might be wondering how it will all play out.
Given Black Clover being needlessly compared with other shonen, this can go a number of ways but the easiest outcome is clearly that Lucius might reveal his full power and prolong the battle.
We have already seen his full angelic form yet with eight wings, he has barely done anything in this set of chapters.
This means we might see more from him next chapter before a big development comes involving either Asta or Yuno facing some sort of loss.
Perhaps Never-Never Land expires and this causes Yuno to be defeated, with the other Magic Knights affected also losing.
As the rival to the protagonist, Yuno will fall first, since Lucius sees him as the one most loved by mana due to his combination of Star and Wind Magic, Asta will be the one left standing, being the true counter to Lucius’ ultimate godly magic.
Here, we might see Asta in a new form.
Additionally, Lucius’ Judgment Day spell is a ticking time bomb since it has not been stopped.
Let us hope Judgment Day does not follow the same fate as Jujutsu Kaisen’s Merger since Sukuna could have just activated the merger any time while right now, Lucius can activate Judgment Day in a desperate move to erase Asta’s Anti-Magic.
Is There Any Substance Left For the Finale?
After the emotional climax to Noelle and Nacht’s arcs, it feels like Black Clover is losing its steam when it comes to writing emotional narratives.
Yet there could still be hope if Black Clover’s finale recalls that Liebe exists.
One problem with the final stretch of the series is that Liebe, the devil that started the plot by leaving the Underworld and meeting Asta’s mom, is now reduced to a power-up.
Some might compare this to how the two Zangetsu’s of Bleach did nothing as characters but acted as swords and power-ups for Ichigo after Chapter 542: “The Blade is Me”.
If these chapters signal anything, Black Clover might be reaching its climax, which has been confirmed today, January 9, 2025, through the Jump GIGA Spring 2025 preview
Black Clover could end by Volume 38.
For context, Volume 37 will end on Chapter 380 and therefore Volume 38 will end around Chapter 390.
This means that Black Clover is far, far from ending and will definitely not reach that by the end of 2025.
