The Rokuhira Eyes Explained! Life or Death Smelting! Kagurabachi Chapter 125 Spoilers!

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, Kunishige, Shiba and Subaru steal the Datenseki ore, risking their careers, on the gamble of making the Enchanted Blades.

Kagurabachi Chapter 125 is titled, “Smelting”

This chapter has 19 pages.

The chapter begins with one of the researchers explaining his findings on the Datenseki: a mystic rock that was like a forbidden fruit that required immense human sacrifice to access, even cannibalism.

We see a lone individual by a Datenseki piece, surrounded by ritually murdered bodies.

However, these texts were made by the Soga Clan, so it is not guaranteed to be truth.

Meanwhile, in the Urita forge, Kunishige discusses tatara smelting: the technique that produces tamahagane, an extremely.high- quality steel with very few impurities, the raw material used to make Japanese katana due to its semifusion state where the carbon is not melted evenly.

Since the delicate irregularity cannot be produced through modern means, only the ancient method can do it: for three days and nights straight, manually feeding iron sand and charcoal into a clay furnace while aerating it with bellows.

March 27, noon.

Joji catches Subaru, Kunishige and Shiba in the act as he asked contacts for information about Subaru.

Joji tells them to stop now as Izaru will be bringing more men from the Sorcery Bureau who will not be as patient as Joji.

Shiba reveals that they pulverized all the Datenseki and now enter the first step: tatara smelting.

We learn that Subaru Urita’s sorcery is Multiplication, which explains why he was spotted in many places at once, why he was able to work as both a sushi chef and a swordsmith.

We see seven clones at work on the forge.

While Joji understands why they are doing this, to save Chiaki, he mentions that Chiaki’s prophecy foretold the disastrous consequences of smelting the Datenseki ore, an accident to wipe out the nearby city.

Kunishige explains that the point of the Prophecies for people to make choices to preempt them, so he clarifies that along with the Datenseki, they are adding ten times the amount of pebbled magnetite to the furnace, which makes it easier to smelt than iron sand.

By powdering the Datenseki and infusing it with a large amount of pebbled magnetite, they can reduce the possible explosion radius and will not exceed 200 to 300 meters, meaning only those within this faraway forging site will die, meaning Kunishige and Urita.

Urita goes on to explain that Kunishige’s eyes are covered in a special membrane.

Since swordsmiths spend plenty of time staring at fire with their naked eyes, many lose their eyesight but in the case of Kunishige, his eyes repeatedly regenerate through cellular destruction and regeneration, making his eyes stronger.

Kunishige was born to forge katana.

Kunishige then outlines that as Datenseki is heated, its particles become more active with energy with the higher temperature, exploding at around 1,000 degrees.

However, varying the heating rate could disrupt the rhythm of the particles; so by adding heat slowly and suppressing particle activity, they should be able to reach the ideal smelting temperature without causing an explosion and therefore this could be done through tatara smelting

Joji is still not convinced but Subaru assures him that it is his talent that makes this even remotely possible as a gamble.

Kunishige’s eyes can see the fine particles as a result of his constant exposure working on katana.

Tatara predates modern temperature tracking; the masters of swordsmithing watch the colour and shape of the flames, take in their sound, smell and heat, and adapt the bellows’ force and coal and iron sand timing in response; all through observation.

Kunishige’s eyes never leave the flames, engrossed completely in his work alongside the Uritas managing the bellows and fueling.

At one point, Urita reports the temperature is over 1,200 degrees, Joji shocked to see the Datenseki hasn’t exploded.

Urita remarks that it was Kunishige’s ability saving it from explosions, and tells Joji to leave if he is truly concerned.

There was no science to validate what they are doing, only going by experience, instinct and senses.

Man against material!

We then see a Hokazono “black page”, showing the furnace leak out the first “Noro”, impurities expelled from steel during smelting and proof that the purifying process was ongoing.

The taming of the gods begins!

This is the last chapter before the hiatus that began on June 17th.
