Griffith Gets BULLIED by the God Hand! Berserk Chapter 386 Spoilers!

Griffith is utterly bullied by the God Hand, confirming that his glorious dream is nothing more than a gilded birdcage, confirming to the readers that Griffith’s defeat will be humiliating.

BERSERK © 1989 by Kentaru Miura and Kouji Mori/Hakusensha

In the previous Berserk chapter, Guts leaves the tomb and thus the final war is about to begin!

Berserk Chapter 386 is titled, “Can You Catch Hold of a Migrating Bird in the Clouds?”

This chapter has 23 pages.

Caption: “The third of three consecutive episodes!!”

“He will hold all within his hands”

The cover shows Griffith extending his hand as two white feathers fall from the sky, where we also see Zodd flying by.

Editor’s note: “As Guts is restored, what happens in the Falcon’s city…?!”

The chapter begins with Casca attempting to escape and Schierke finally noticing her.

Sonia, Griffith’s spirit medium, detects her presence.

Her protector, Mule Wolflame, sees a large flock of migrating birds returning to Falconia

Sonia uses the Ugly Duckling story to compare herself and others to birds.

She is a kite, which is a relative of the hawk.

Schierke is an owl, representing her wisdom and ties to magic.

Kushans are crows because they are scavengers that feast on the dead.

Midlanders are ducks because they are docile.

And of course, Griffith is the falcon.

Migrating birds here refers to the nations of humanity that have been scattered as a result of Griffith’s Great Wave of the Astral World.

Sonia and Mule report back to Griffith about their campaign to fight some monsters outside Falconia’s borders.

While they are successful in driving off the “evil beasts”, the remnants of fallen nation have resorted to becoming thieves and those who refuse to convert to the Holy See religion have all gathered in one place.

The Kushan Empire.

To Mule, this is a threat to the promised peace and unity Falconia offers humanity.

Sonia says they are not doing anything wrong and that anyone who chooses to stick to older beliefs like polytheism or witchcraft are stumbling blocks to progress.

Griffith, however, acknowledges that people are just afraid of change.

When Sonia and Mule finish their report, they come across a tired Casca.

Mule looks concerned but Sonia tells him that she is just a maid.

Once again, Sonia is jealous of any woman that comes close to her beloved master.

Sonia was a victim of Kushan conquest, having seen her parents burned to death and herself made a prisoner.

So, she waited for her Messiah to come ever since she was a child.

When Griffith incarnated at the end of the Conviction Arc, she immediately runs to his side and when she sees the Apostles join forces to form the new Band of the Hawk, Sonia calls this gruesome scene of carnage an inimitable painting and that they are living inside an extraordinary tale.

However, Sonia could never be Griffith’s muse, instead watching him act as Princess Charlotte’s fiance and much later, seeing him return to Falconia hold Casca his arms

Griffith feels Guts’ presence in his heart.

In Chapter 384, we learn that the Moonlight Boy is Guts’ other half and because he is also Griffith’s vessel, that means Guts and Griffith have a shared connection as well.

Now, Griffith knows that Guts has realized his Astral heritage and that he is on his way to their destined rematch.

Griffith approaches Casca and seemingly triggers her Brand of Sacrifice.

A Brand of Sacrifice is planted on those who are meant to be eaten by the Apostles during the Eclipse and thanks to Skull Knight, she and Guts are the only humans to survive that inevitable death sentence.

But the Brand would bleed in the presence of the demonic.

And this time, it is not Griffith causing him.

Griffith asks Casca why she came here but he is interrupted by an emerging ooze of darkness behind him.

The God Hand.

Griffith steps forward and covers Casca so she does not get overwhelmed by this evil.

The move was almost by instinct, just like how he threw himself to save Casca from the falling rocks during Guts’ fight with Zodd at the Hill of Swords.

The same hill where Griffith said he is free but it is clear that he was lying to himself, insisting he had everything under control.

The Moonlight Boy is still inside Griffith or rather, is Griffith.

We are slowly seeing both entities becoming one.

The Moonlight Boy was originally Guts’ son, bearing the other half of his soul, but lately, Griffith has been quite protective of Casca

Both motivations are coming together.

Before ascending to God Hand status, Griffith had a peculiar interest in Casca.

When Casca was 12 years old, she ran away from a perverted noble and Griffith came to her but rather than rescue her directly, he threw his sword so Casca could decide for herself.

This was the moment Casca devoted herself to becoming strong but most of all, to Griffith himself.

However, Griffith clearly had no romantic love for Casca, especially when he began focusing more on Guts but when Griffith was tortured and he saw Guts and Casca happy together, something in him clicked.

Even if he does not have romantic feelings for Casca, he has always been possessive of her, culminating in the Eclipse, where he raped Casca out of spite for Guts.

Sure, he seems protective here but by the end of this chapter, he will morph back into toxic boyfriend mode and remind her of the monster he has become.

The God Hand takes on a smoky form and that is because the God Hand do not have material bodies.

Normally, outside of an Interstice or the space between Physical and Astral Worlds, they can only manifest in flesh form either by taking on a permanent vessel like Griffith did during the Incarnation Ceremony or by manifesting from the demonic flesh of trolls and others in dimensions such as Qliphoth, Slan’s domain.

What is interesting, however, is that the God Hand are not restricted anymore thanks to the Great Wave of the Astral World merging both worlds.

So this is them just showing off rather than manifesting fully.

Each of the God Hand mock Griffith.

Slan says something interesting, that Griffith is just unleashing demons to defeat them himself and play the hero.

We do see the Band of the Hawk fighting the jotnar, giants from the Astral World who eat humans, but also trolls and other horrifying monsters normally associated with the God Hand and evil.

In fact, the jotnar even keep trolls as pets.

Ubik points out the farce in Griffith’s efforts.

He is only pretending to be a conqueror and a hero when he controls all the evil forces as paid actors.

Void gives the most painful jab of all, saying that Griffith’s antics are below that of a child’s.

The God Hand are mocking Griffith’s childish vision, that all this time, he was a fraud.

Yep, the God Hand gave Griffith a Zoom call just to laugh at his face.

And Kentaro Miura waited years to deliver on this catharsis.

That even the God Hand, Griffith’s new kin and the ones who gave him wings, treat him like dirt and arguably worse than the humans they deceive and sacrifice.

We all knew that Griffith was a fraud but we finally see the facade break.

Griffith does manage to exorcise the dark presence, saving her from the God Hand’s aura.

But that whole scene left him with a bad aftertaste.

Y’all may think this chapter makes Griffith look out to be a hero but its the opposite.

Bro does not even help Casca get up on her feet, only watching as the maid do that for him.

He is just standing there, about to cry from the humiliation.

This is not even a trick to make Casca feel sympathy for him or to manipulate and control her.

Griffith did not expect to be utterly embarrassed by the God Hand.

We established how Griffith’s ultimate goal is to fly higher than even the limits of the universe and that he is not loyal to the God Hand or even the Idea of Evil itself but it’s quite clear he is far from able to do so.

The God Hand are bullying him.

Kushan is causing his army a lot of trouble.

And Guts is about to give him the smackdown of the century.

The Behelit’s power is just a monkey’s paw.

You may get the thing you want but it comes at a terrible and ironic price.

As free as Griffith seems, he is still playing the same game as everyone else, a game the God Hand only live to watch and enjoy.

Mocking him like a TV character who does not know he is just part of a show.

That’s right, Griffith, like Casca, is just a caged bird, thinking he is free.

Griffith’s Incarnation may be a dark inverse of the birth of Jesus Christ in our world but in Berserk, it feels like a demotion than a promotion.

From Blessed King to King of the Dollhouse

The last page of the chapter speaks volumes to Griffith’s journey.

He was the same, pitiful, humiliated shell of a human being who saw the God Hand call out to him in his cell.

Griffith wished for wings to fly out of his cage but what he got was a larger birdcage instead.

And yet this is exactly what he wanted all along.

To be stuck in a dream world called Falconia, where he is the King of his little Dollhouse.

To be in control of a smaller world where he knows what he is.

And now he is told exactly what he is.

A fake hero whose real wish was the cold prison called Falconia.

That was the whole point of the Incarnation Ceremony.

Once every thousand years, a God Hand, a being of the divine domain, is given a permanent flesh vessel.

And so far, we have only seen that with Griffith.

On paper, it sounds like the God Hand sent their golden boy to fulfill the Idea of Evil’s master plan but this chapter makes it look like they are just bullying their new intern.

As if that destructive Ceremony, which was equal to the Eclipse in horror, was only to give Griffith a second chance in life and play the hero.

What if the whole ceremony serves a much darker purpose?

In real life, a Messiah is not just a hero or king who saves the world but DIES to do so.

And Griffith is next on the chopping block and he has not even reached a full century of life.

Bro is about to get a retirement in his mid-20s before he could even complete his dreams.

Remember how Griffith was constantly compared with Gaiseric, the guy who built an Empire 1000 years ago, only to almost die in Void’s Eclipse?

And how each Incarnation is every thousand years?

Right now, Griffith plans to build the Second Empire, to complete what Gaiseric failed.

Gaiseric could have been a God Hand or divine being that suddenly descended to ravage the continent and build an empire from the skulls of other nations.

But what if the God Hand are just repeating the same cycle, only this rendition is more horrifying.

Griffith will die a hero facing an unstoppable Evil, to destroy the last remnants of hope humanity has.

Maybe the God Hand will allow Guts to finish the job.

They will be banking on Guts’ reputation as the wicked Black Swordsman, the antichrist of the Berserk world and Guts’ rage-fueled campaign has so far helped in that direction.

What the God Hand don’t realize is that he has now become a creature beyond the designs of Causality.

Maybe Griffith felt it deep down too, that his defeat is predestined

He is the author of the story that deceives the audience with sweet lies but even the author is beholden to the interest of his editors, in this case, the God Hand.

So in a metaphorical way, Guts is the story of Berserk freeing itself from a caged author’s control

This chapter may be the Roast of Griffith, a long awaited catharsis but we could also see this as the beginning of Griffith’s secret wish within the win.

Like before, to let Guts distract him from his dream.

Only this time, permanently

The three-chapter streak is over.

Berserk Chapter 387 has no announced date.

However, there are 5 more chapters for the upcoming Volume 44, which is set to release on August 2027.
