Shiba vs Masumi! Kagurabachi Chapter 128 Spoilers!

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, the Masumi attack Kunishige to stop the smelting process.

Kagurabachi Chapter 128 is titled, “Smelting, Part 3”

This chapter has 15 pages.

The situation is desperate as Subaru Urita has also not slept in two days like Kunishige but unlike the boy, he is also using his Multiplication Sorcery during those days as well, meaning he is depleted.

When the Masumi throws shuriken with smoke bombs, Subaru counters by kicking both his slippers but the smoke bombs still explode.

However, Urita’s clones cannot fight, so he calls Joji to handle the other Masumi.

Although he cannot see a thing, he does parry the Masumi’s dual blades without looking, especially since it is on his literal blindspot on his blind right eye and thus preventing the ninja from putting out the flames.

Urita then cuts the blade in half, remarking that the Masumi need better swords and that Urita knows the katana’s weakness: sideways force.

Suddenly, the head Masumi points his blade at Kunishige’s throat.

Meanwhile, the Sorcery Bureau chairman remarks that Kunishige’s camp have a vested interest in Princess Chiaki and are nobodies playing hero by defying the government and Chiaki’s wishes.

The head Masumi says that Kunishige is the spark they must put out first.

Kunishige recalls how Shiba was the one who rescued them from the rogue customer.

That moment motivated Kunishige to make katana and became obsessed, ironically becoming like his father and also fueling his own existential guilt yet at the same time pursuing an escape through a katana that only protects.

Chiaki still came to cook meals for him in spite of what happened before and how helpless he was at the time without Shiba.

Chiaki did envision the danger of the Enchanted Blade project and its smelting process but since Prophecy can be influenced by the biases of its user, it is also possible that Chiaki’s love for Kunishige made her want to protect Kunishige by discouraging this project and instead sacrificing her own future for the country, for her brother and the man she loved.

Now, Kunishige acknowledges that making katana was a form of escapism, that it was “all he had”.

His father’s katana wounded Chiaki and his father drove his mother to insanity.

These red eyes, the product of intense smithing dedication and what his dad is most proud of, are a mark of shame.

In the end, Kunishige felt that he was unable to protect anyone, not his mother or Chiaki.

Yet still, Kunishige refuses to flinch even with a blade to his neck.

Suddenly, the Masumi is teleported out and we see Shiba, rising up through his injuries.

The Masumi is surprised since Shiba should be in pain from breathing without the seals, so he says Shiba will die.

Shiba does not care since he already saw a man crush a ship into a ball while he had a hole in his stomach, referring to Chapter 119: “The Irishima Talks, Part 3” when Hiroto Soga used Kurotsuchi to perform this feat.

The chapter ends with Shiba holding back the two Masumi charging towards his friend.

Kagurabachi Chapter 129 will be released on August 24, 2026.
