God Knight SHANKS was INSANELY STRONG! One Piece Chapter 1167 Full Spoilers
Holy Knight Shanks might be one of the most insane builds in the series, already showing off his advanced Armament Haki and would have likely clashed with Mihawk around this point.
In the previous One Piece chapter, we witnessed the death of Rocks D. Xebec after being finished off by Figarland Garling, how Garp became known as Hero of the Marines and the beginnings of Dragon’s Freedom Fighting.
One Piece Chapter 1167 is titled, “The Son of Ida.”
This chapter has 17 pages, including the color page.
Editor’s note: “The world after the God Valley Incident is…”
We do not have a new cover story series yet so we once again have a Reader Request in the cover: “Nojiko and Genzo looking at a cat that is trying to steal a book about fish.”
This is definitely a reference to the two’s care for Nami because Nami’s moniker is “Cat Burglar” and a book on fish would be fitting for someone who wants to navigate the seas.
As a cat, that cat wanted to find out about the types of fish to eat, which is funny.
The Florian Triangle
The chapter begins 33 years ago, 5 years after the God Valley Incident.
There were stories all around the world, including Impel Down, about a giant sea monster attacking ships that most initially assumed was a Sea King.
A now 20-year old adult bird man, Morgans was interviewing one such person.
That was far from the truth because the being resembled a giant human.
Harald was tasked by the World Government to help the Marines in secret to defeat pirates, as part of his vow to atone for the giants’ thousand years’ worth of sins.
We see Harald cutting a pirate ship in two in the middle of the sea, being twice
The narrator explains that there was a rumor spreading among countries on the Grand Line that in seas covered with heavy mist, a monster lived that mainly targeted pirates.
But the narrator also says Harald is not the “Florian Triangle Monster,” because he attacked ships in other regions as well.
This means we still do not know what the Florian Triangle Monsters are but here in our added spoilers, we theorize that the Ancient Giants of Gallelia are likely culprits, although the shadows are much bigger than even the Ancient Giants.
That being said, there is no proof there could be other Ancient Giants larger than Oars and Harald’s family.
If there are such giants, then the Elbaph Arc might even see the release of these Giants via Loki’s Legendary Devil Fruit that he stole after Harald’s death, a fruit that could rouse the Ancient Giant marauders and activate the One Piece Rumbling.
The Proto Yonko
The narrator adds that after the God Valley incident, several pirates who participated in it went on to conquer the seas
Roger, Newgate, Linlin and Kaido essentially formed the prototype version of the Four Emperors as they were co-equal in strength and infamy.
This means that Gol D. Roger was an equal to the other three Emperors before becoming King of the Pirates.
This did make sense as it would make him just like Luffy on his journey.
For example, he had to take rubbings from Charlotte Linlin’s Poneglyph like Brook did for Luffy, meaning they considered the threat Big Mom and her crew posed.
Note that even by the time of the God Valley Incident, a 30 year old Linlin already had 30 children out of her eventual total of 85.
Luffy’s present journey is a mirror of Roger’s, except they were in the right timing and Luffy had the Nika fruit to complete the One Piece.
Around this time, we see another summary of Roger’s journey, revealing how he, like Luffy in the present, surpassed the future Yonko as the first person to circumnavigate the One Piece world and become the Pirate King.
We see the shot of Roger’s crew and notice that Buggy is doing the Nika pose, which could signify how valuable he is to the overall One Piece story or even a hint of his connections to a potential Joy Boy claimant like his possible father Rocks D. Xebec, which we discussed last chapter.
By the time of Roger’s execution, the Great Pirate Era had begun, leading the Marines to enlist the Giants into their forces.
This gave Harald and Elbaph much power on their own end.
Most of all, Harald’s services for the World Government allowed the Giant King to enter the Holy Land of Mary Geoise, something he was not permitted to do 32 years earlier during the time he first met Rocks D. Xebec.
The Holy Knight Seals Explain Why Shanks Lost His Left Arm
24 years ago, Harald spent a total of 14 years in service to the Holy Knights that he finally attained the first rank, the Devoted God’s Blade, an apprentice or squire-like rank to the Holy Knights of God.
The tattoo is on his left arm, which confirms that all left arms bear the seal.
Harald feels honored to be part of the order.
The Five Elders explain that there are three stages to the contract.
The Surface Sea or Shallow Sea Contract is a “faint tie”.
The other two ranks, the “Deep Sea” and “Sea Floor” signify the real vows between 13 chosen ones and “God” (Imu).
This means there are only thirteen who bear the “Deep Sea” and “Sea Floor” Contracts.
Deep Sea and Abyssal would make more sense because of the ability, Abyss, which allows Holy Knights and Elders to teleport around the world to any place with a pentagram placed by a Contract bearer.
The Deep Sea Contracts likely belong to the Eight Holy Knights of God while the Abyssal Sea Contracts belong to the Five Elders.
After all, Nusjuro tells Harald that in becoming a Holy Knight, he will be able to know the “depths” of this world.
Xebec called Imu “the world itself” and it was how Catalina Devon and Van Augur called Blackbeard’s goal (the Empty Throne).
This already indicates that the Surface Sea is just scratching the surface of being part of the inner forces of the World Government, far beyond the Marines or even CP-0, the lapdogs of the World Nobles.
As Gunko said in Chapter 1136: “The Land That Awaits the Sun”, a foreigner becoming a Holy Knight was equal to gaining the status of a Celestial Dragon and this was an offer made to Loki, son of Harald and crown prince of Elbaph.
In a way, it was an initial attempt by Imu to have “proper rulers” that obeyed him like Harald did prior to the man’s betrayal, which is why in the present day in Chapter 1150: “Domi Reversi”, Imu had enslaved Dorry and Brogy to be replacements for Jarul, who was a substitute or regent in the kingless land, and the disgraced Prince Loki.
These “real contracts” have the full package of giving the Knights of God and Elders the ability to use Abyss and gain immortality that enables them to regenerate from any damage quickly, unless hit by advanced Conqueror’s Haki, which stalls regeneration.
This explains why Shanks, a mark bearer, was unable to regenerate his left arm but that arm would still compromise his safety as it was still a “faint tie”.
This means Imu would likely have followed Shanks’ movements and maybe even notice something like Shanks acquiring the taboo Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika, that had to be renamed as the Gomu Gomu no Mi and forgotten after many centuries as a minor Paramecia.
Additionally, the symbol the Knights of God is similar to the astronomical symbols for Earth or the alchemical symbol of oxygen.
This may be a reference to how the Knights of God breathe the same “air” as commoners unlike the usual World Noble, although Killingham would beg to differ as he still wore the resin bubble when transported by Gunko’s Abyss.
The distinct rankings among the Thirteen Chosen Ones would make sense because only the Five Elders are able to turn into yokai, which means they have the fullest portions of Imu’s power.
Additionally, the numbering, 13, is a reference to the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ.
One of the reasons the Western world considers 13 an unlucky number is because the 12th Apostle, Judas, betrayed Jesus, and he was replaced after Jesus’ Ascension into Heaven with Matthias, making the number 13.
It also adds up since even among the Apostles, there is a hierarchy.
Although all of them ended up as Bishops, certain apostles held distinct privileges, namely the “inner three” of Peter, James and John, the closest disciples to Jesus who witnessed his Transfiguration.
In fact, one of the Five Elders is named Ju Peter (Jupiter), a combination of the planet and Roman King of the Gods Jupiter and
And like the inner three, the Five Elders do not have a specific hierarchy, although it is noted and with much irony that the one called Peter looks the youngest compared to the rest, especially since Peter in the New Testament is often depicted as one of the older members while John is the youngest across all 12 Apostles
To sum it up:
Shallow Sea: Reserved for the Devoted Blades of God. This seal grants the Abyss teleportation mark and a “faint tie” to Imu, implying a weaker telekinetic link.
Deep Sea: Reserved for the Knights of God. This seal grants the previous benefits of the Abyss teleportation mark and the power of immortality and regeneration. This also grants a stronger tie to Imu since Holy Knights receive orders from Imu telepathically as proven with Gunko, who would also be possessed.
Sea Floor: Reserved for the Five Elder Stars. This seal grants the previous benefits of the Abyss teleportation, immortality, and regeneration but with
Furthermore, the Deep Sea and Abyssal Seals seemingly emit the “strange Haki” that Shanks, Gaban and Loki felt when the Holy Knights came to Elbaph, something that could not be said of other, stronger Haki users like Rocks.
All of these might hint towards the idea that Imu is actually the devil of the Sea itself, especially with its plot to remake the world by drowning all land until only the Red Line is left.
Could Imu being the Sea Devil also be why the Five Elders are seemingly immune to the curse of drowning Devil Fruit users are afflicted with?
We also see Garling in this meeting room together with the other Holy Knights, such as Sommers and Garling’s son, Shamrock.
At this time, Shamrock has shorter hair and resembles Shanks when he was also around this age, likely at 15 years old since this is after Roger’s execution.
Anyway, Garling gives Harald a long-distance Den Den Mushi to contact him immediately when necessary.
Shirahoshi is 80% Mosa
We cut to 20 years ago as Harald drinks with Neptune, who tells him that his daughter is about to be born.
Neptune jokes that Loki and his daughter should get engaged.
Shirahoshi, being 16 years old in the present day, was not born yet and would only show up around 8 years after this talk.
Right now, Loki is around 13 in Giant years.
Harald refers to Shirahoshi as “Mosamosa” and refuses the engagement.
The term “mosa” means “hairy” and it is the name Loki uses for his friend.
The long-distance Transponder Snail that Garling gave Harald might be the one that Loki is using since Harald is dead and there were only guards in the empty Aurust Castle.
Put together, this lends credence to the theory that Loki has been talking to Shirahoshi, who had been trapped in the palace to avoid the creepy pirate, Vander Decken IX, who used his Mato Mato no Mi (Mark-Mark Fruit).
The only problem with the theory is that the Den Den Mushi turns into a bearded male and since the Den Den Mushi usually turn into the person that the user is speaking to.
Unless there is some reason why Shirahoshi would disguise the Den Den Mushi or perhaps it is an effect of the long-distance between Elbaph and Fishman Island.
Around this time as well, Harald meets up with Saul, who has already made a home on Elbaph as a teacher in the Walrus School and made a home in the Library.
Perhaps later on, Saul would meet with Shaka, one of Vegapunk’s Satellites.
Fisher Tiger was Shanks’ Original Choice for Joyboy?
We jump forward in time to 15 years ago, a year before Harald’s untimely death.
Fisher Tiger escapes Mary Geoise with the help of a mysterious shadowed figure, who uses Advanced Armament Haki to break the exploding collars on every slave.
This actually makes perfect sense and explains how Fisher Tiger was able to pull this off even though his flashback did not establish that he had any skill in Advanced Armament Haki or any Haki to begin with.
We see many escaped slaves, such as Boa Hancock and her sisters Marigold and Sandersonia, as well as Koala, who would go on to even board the Sun Pirates ship later on.
Did Shanks, the man who freed Fisher Tiger, perhaps do so because he saw him as a potential candidate for Joy Boy?
Considering that Shanks’ mission here was to gather information on Mary Geoise and the World Government, he might have also used his position not only to help the enslaved be freed but to find people who can be his Captain’s successor or bear the Nika fruit, assuming that was all part of his original agenda.
Holy Knight Shanks might be one of the most insane builds in the series, already showing off his advanced Armament Haki and would have likely clashed with Mihawk around this point.
Shanks and Shamrock Together
Days after the incident, Harald would respond to the outbreak made by Fisher Tiger and is joined by Sommers.
Garling appears to introduce Harald to his other son, Shanks, and Harald is surprised to see how much he resembles Shamrock, someone Harald would be more familiar with.
Shanks’ forehead and left side is wrapped by a bandage as a result of the scars left on him by Blackbeard recently, meaning he likely received these marks from Teach around this time.
It is fitting that Shanks, a man marked with the Surface Sea tattoo, would also receive marks from the son of Rocks D. Xebec, who his father Garling killed 23 years earlier.
We later see Shamrock join Shanks and Oda does an excellent job drawing this panel, putting so much effort not only into the design of Saint Figarland Shanks as a Devoted Blade of God, wearing the same formal military uniform as his twin, a full-fledged Knight of God, but also even the environment and sense of motion as they walked.
They both look so alike, except that Shanks has shorter hair while Shamrock had already grown his hair long by this point.
Shanks was gung-ho about learning more about the Holy Land, indicating that he has only come here recently but unlike Harald, who spent 14 years, Shanks became a Devoted Blade of God in such a short time.
Shanks is quite a good actor as he is insistent on catching the culprit responsible for freeing Fisher Tiger.
Shamrock tells Shanks that it is best to wait until he is all healed up.
Shanks expresses his anger, telling Shamrock that no one understands his frustration since he has “wasted” 24 years of his life in the Lower World, hence why he feels like he does not belong anywhere and pretends it is disgusting.
Harald turns his back when he looks at Shanks, implying his suspicions that Shanks was responsible for freeing the slaves.
This shows Shanks’ desire to be promoted through the ranks as quickly as possible.
Ida’s Death, Loki’s Revenge
In Elbaph, Ida falls ill for some reason but refuses to contact Harald since he is busy with his mission.
Hajrudin goes out to sea to find a doctor.
By this point, both Loki and Hajrudin were adults or around 16 years old in Giant years.
While fighting against a giant bull, Loki expresses his worries over Ida’s condition but hides his feelings.
Ida tells her close friends that even if they are not connected by blood, Loki is as precious a son to her as Hajrudin.
At the end of the chapter, Loki discovers that Brewers Village poisoned Ida in revenge for Estrid.
One of the Giants tells Loki that it is absurd that an outsider like Ida is Queen of Elbaph instead of the late Estrid.
The Giant thinks that Loki would agree since they are the same clan as the “true queen” Estrid, his mother, and so the Giant chose to poison Ida with ergot to claim the treasures he claims for their clan.
The poison is said to be unstoppable, so her fate is fate.
The center of this final double-page spread shows Loki destroying Brewers Village, his mother’s elitist hometown while holding up the Giant.
Loki tells the man that he remembers well how his own biological mother threw him to the Underworld out of disgust at his appearance, so he denounces his mother’s clan.
Recalling how Ida always tried to reach out to him when he was clearly lonely, Loki declared Ida better not die because she is the only one he would ever call his mother, showing how much Loki did love Hajrudin’s family in spite of his attitude towards his half-brother.
