How Was Garp Not Fired After The God Valley Incident? One Piece Chapter 1163 Additional Spoilers!
The God Valley Incident is where Garp was named the Hero of the Marines yet is also where he made his boldest defiance against the World Government. Now we understand why he still works for the Marines.
The early spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1163 gives us a structure of this iconic battle between the new alliance of humans and the God Devil of this world, Imu.
This is Why Garp is the Hero of the Marines
As Garp joins the Rocks Monster Trio in their assault on the Imu-possessed Saturn, some Marines try to stop Garp, saying that he cannot attack an Elder, one of the five public heads of the World Government, his superiors.
Yet Garp says that he does not care if the one before him is an Elder because to him, it is a monster that is doing harm to his fellow Marines.
This is the “My Justice” motto Garp follows, deciding for himself what Justice is.
Perhaps, because people, both citizens and Marines, remember Garp’s bold rescue of them in God Valley and perhaps through the likes of Morgans spreading the news of his deeds, this is why Garp remains with the Marines and World Government in spite of his attack on Imu.
As a way to keep a wild card, a D, close at hand.
In Chapter 1157: “Legendary Bar” , Xebec imagined if Garp became a pirate and considering how willful Garp is, he would indeed pose a serious threat.
Even as a Marine Vice-Admiral, Garp shirked orders and went off on his own, including his rescue of Koby when he was kidnapped by Blackbeard.
How much more if he was beyond the control of the World Government, a mad dog that would be too hard to put down even for the likes of the Holy Knights of God!
Previous Devil Fruit Generation
We now have confirmation that Captain John was indeed the previous user of the Jiki Jiki no Mi (Magnet Magnet Fruit) that is currently owned by Eustass “Captain” Kid.
The parallels are right there as we previously saw John summon a giant metal arm and that he is always called “Captain John”.
However, another Rocks member, Ganzui, is also a previous Devil Fruit user, this time of the Bomu Bomu no Mi (Bomb Bomb Fruit) used by Mr. 5 of Baroque Works, Crocodile’s former crime organization.
And it seems like he applies its power with his gigantic hands instead of the more ineffieicnt Mr. 5’s method of flicking boogers from his nose.
John uses his Devil Fruit against Monkey D. Dragon, who was holding baby Shanks, absorbing him or probably sealing him in some metal trap, which explains how Shanks ended up in a chest.
Perhaps the magnetic force pulling Dragon also dragged Shanks to an open chest, which shuts down after John finished his attack.
First World Alliance Since the Void Century
We see the names of the six main attacks used against Imu:
Rocks: “Curse of the Abyss”
Garp: “Galaxy Impact”
Roger: “Divine Departure”
Whitebeard: “Air Shatter”, which is likely Gekishin, a close-ranged attack
Kaido: “Dragon”
Big Mom: “Ikoku Sovereignty”
It seems that we have confirmation that both Galaxy Impact, a punch that can destroy a whole island, and Divine Departure, which can cut down a massive battleship, are Garp and Roger’s respective strongest attacks and we have seen the devastating damage both characters can pull off.
In both Chapter 1156: “Idols” and Chapter 1161: “A Song of Love Bound Under a Hail of Arrows”, we have seen how Garp outmatched Roger and the Four Emperors during this Era of Legends.
Now imagine the attacks of three of the Four Emperors, who all use Devil Fruit attacks, and three iconic Conqueror’s Haki users: the forgotten legend Davy D. Xebec, the strongest Marine in history Monkey D. Garp, and the Pirate King Gol D. Roger, against one singular Imu, who possesses the vessel of one of his Five Elders, Jaygarcia Saturn.
And…
NONE OF THAT WORKED.
Like in Elbaph, we witnessed a demon tank all the damage and regenerate completely and in both instances, those beings were vessels for Imu to use.
Imu would then launch a wave of Conqueror’s Haki that would knock out every other Pirate and Marine except the six that are standing before Imu.
The Secrets of Domi Reversi
The chapter ends with Imu using Domi Reversi on Rocks and ordering him to kill his family: his wife Eris and son Teach.
This usage and the name of the technique already suggest a clear limitation of this divine power: that Imu can only turn people into demons within their homeland, a sadistic limitation that makes Imu one of the most wicked villains in fiction.
Elbaph and God Valley were destroyed by their own residents, who have “reversed” states into demons.
This was actually foreshadowed long before Oda wrote the Elbaph Arc through Opening 25: “Usssss”, where we see S-Shark, one of the Seraphim, flip, subermege and turn into a demon, as if that demon was a doppleganger.
A concept familiar to those who have seen Soul Eater author, Atsushi Ohkubo’s recent manga, Fire Force (2015-2022), where the power system is connected to a hellish realm of Adolla, where dopplegangers, exaggerated counterparts of those on Earth, reside.
Watch out for full spoilers coming soon.
There will be NO BREAK NEXT WEEK.
One Piece Chapter 1164 will be released on November 3, 2025.
