Will this Arc End the Hishaku? Kagurabachi Chapter 97 Spoilers!
With the order to exterminate the Hishaku, can the good guys actually wipe out Kagurabachi’s main villain group within this arc or will this all end in tragedy?

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, Azami’s Coin technique matches with Yura’s overwhelming power.
Kagurabachi Chapter 97 is titled, “The Host”
Editor’s Note: “The one he has his eyes fixed on..!”
The cover page shows the left half of Yura’s face, the eye focusing hard on the Shinuchi.
The chapter begins with a map of the city, with the underground portion covered in papers that power up the barrier, which is powered up by the heat of the earth converted into Spirit Energy.
Essentially, this is geothermal energy.
Spirit Energy is life energy from humans and cannot be controlled by anyone and Spirit Energy that has nowhere to go will deplete, so the converted geothermal energy has to be maintained by Barrier Keepers.
The cornerstone of the barrier system, the one in the middle, is selected once every 10 years from the applicants and suitable candidates of many.
Once the 10-year term has been completed, a reward sufficient to live a life of luxury is bestowed for the one who completed his mission.
Of course, this person must follow the first step in all of Sorcery: reshaping and strengthening their body with Spirit Energy but to a higher step, where they are essentially reduced to a husk, a mere vessel of power.
We see the lead barrier keeper opening his mouth, revealing a Scroll, likely containing the spell needed to maintain the barrier or to signify him as the center of the system.
After repeating the cycle of Samsara for around four months, the trainee loses several of their organs and reproductive function.
The vast, unchanneled spiritual energy is converted into a barrier through the user, as if working like a conduit.
The user becomes a being without compare who is capable of enabling the barrier – serving as its core, with six others connected to him at all times for a provided auxiliary when necessary.
Izaru questions the main Barrier Keeper about the situation as he senses two Enchanted Blades clashing and why they have not come down yet.
The Barrier Keeper remarks that there is some interference and Izaru notes that the only six capable of interfering with the barrier are the Barrier Keepers themselves, meaning the traitor is still around.
The Barrier Keeper corrects Izaru, saying that the one interfering is not here since while the Barrier Keepers can influence barrier specifics, there is one other person who has more power: essentially a person similar to the center Barrier Keeper, a host.
Suddenly, the Kamunabi receive an announcement, with Ichiki explaining that there is another host, another keystone holding the barrier system.
Ichiki recalls his conversation with Izaru and they learn that essentially, since Kasen is the traitor, it is likely that the Hishaku have acquired an identical replica of the Barrier Keeper.
Ichiki tells Hakuri and Kiri that restoring the barrier is their priority because now the barrier has been modified to keep away the Enchanted Blades (Chihiro and Samura) but the existence of two hosts or central Barrier Keepers is making the entire barrier system unstable.
The Barrier Keeper remarks that the second host is bearing a huge price for this instability, meaning they came here with incredible resolve, a willingness to die for a cause.
We cut to the Kamnuabi facing off against the young male Hishaku, who declares that the Hishaku will make Yura the king.
We finally return to Azami vs Yura, where Yura points out that the Coin technique being applied as a physical fighting style will cause the user to be exhausted.
Azami remarks the same goes for Yura using the Shinuchi’s power.
Yura notes that little by little, he is getting used to the strain.
As he activates Centipede again, Yura declares his goal: to bring order to this country.
It seems that he and Kasen share the same objective all along.
We cut back to Ichiki interrogating the Kamunabi leader and traitor, Kasen, who says that Yura will reach the Sword Saint much sooner.
Ichiki states that they will kill the other barrier host, which Kasen tempts him to do.
We return to the fight, where Azami states that if the barrier is broken, the Hishaku will bring in reinforcements and Azami knows that Yura can only be defeated by the Enchanted Blades,
With Samura and Chihiro, two of the strongest, could they stand a chance against Yura?
Even with his body messed up from all the fighting, Azami declares his intention to keep wasting Yura’s time until they can stabilize the barrier, stop the Hishaku and bring the Enchanted Blades inside.
The Barrier Keeper remarks that if it was one of the six keepers, he would have noticed, which means that the second host is actually one of the newcomers, meaning one of the Hishaku.
The chapter ends with the announcement calling for the extermination of all Hishaku.
This will be a battle royale against the Hishaku.
Editor’s note: “Get back the barrier! Chihiro and co. wait in the dark..!”
Kagurabachi Chapter 98 will be released on October 20, 2025.
