Did Oda Make a New POWER SYSTEM? Devil’s Haki and Sanji’s Powers. One Piece Chapter 1181 Full Spoilers!
We seem to be introduced to a new power, one that could add further complexity to the Haki power system: Devil’s Haki.
In the previous One Piece chapter, St. Nerona Imu, the King of the World, descends upon Elbaph in the biggest showing of Conqueror’s Haki yet, revealing the power of the original Devil’s Fruit.
One Piece Chapter 1180 is titled, “Omen”
This chapter has 17 pages.
In Japanese, this title is written as “Maki” (魔気), which means “Demonic Aura” or “Devil’s Spirit”.
Omen might be the “anti-Haki”
Haki (覇気) means Supreme Spirit or Determination.
Omen is written with the same last kanji as Haki, (ki or 気, meaning “Spirit”) which could make it a counter-Haki since it seems to dispel Sanji and Zoro’s attacks.
Imu has Haki because he is human or mortal.
But he also has Maki because of the Devil’s Fruit, a Devil’s Haki if you will.
Reader request in the cover: “Vegapunk modifies Zeus so that he rains down candies for Chopper”.
Editor’s note: “‘The King of the World’ has come to Elbaf!!
Imu’s Appearance
The chapter begins with a complete look at Imu’s body.
This time, we see that Imu’s tattoos consist of white dots that lin all over his body, even his legs and feet.
Imu lacks wings or perhaps can make them appear on his own will unlike other Lunarians or are hidden behind his cloak.
Notably, his attire and oni-like horns suggest ties to the Ancient Giants.
His shorts are encircled with three skulls resembling that of an Ancient Giants.
But as we will see, Imu is still smaller than Loki, who is of Ancient Giant descent, but is four times larger than the average human like Sanji.
He seems to be insistent on Elbaph having a king that he must confront but Dorry and Brogy do not answer.
He spots Sommers, who is held by Gerd’s fingers.
Gerd Finger Loss Are Another Anime Foreshadowing?
To free Sommers, Imu cuts Gerd’s two thumbs and forefingers that were handling him.
Hajrudin, enraged, lunges at Imu.
When Imu is about to attack Hajrudin, Stansen kicks Hajrudin out of the way but unfortunately, Imu’s attack cuts Stansen’s right leg.
This week, we got the opening for the Elbaph Arc anime adaptation, Opening 30: “Luminous” and it shows Gerd admiring the Straw Hats.
Notably, we see her fingers being emphasized, so does this mean that the anime staff at Toei knew about Oda’s plans for Gerd?
Although she does not feel pain, the loss of her two thumbs and index fingers hurt her passion.
She loved making human outfits.
Although she condemned Road’s “otaku antics”, which are fair because he kidnaps real people, they do share an “otaku-esque” love for humans, namely making outfits for them.
Gerd’s passion does not quite border on objectifying humans like dolls like the more racist Road but
However, she is also the New Giant Warrior Pirates doctor, so there might be a way to recover them after the battle.
It is easy to forget that fingers can be reattached within 6 to 12 hours of the injury to ensure the best chance of survival and function.
Although they are in the middle of a life and death battle with the devil god of One Piece, Gerd’s fingers are easier to repair or replace than most serious injuries, such as Kiku’s lost arm.
The same cannot be said for Stansen’s right leg, however.
Zoro and Sanji are OUTCLASSED!
Zoro attacks Imu with “Three Sword Style: Purgatory Oni Giri”, but Imu blocks it easily with the tip of his tail.
Imu creates a little black flame in the palm of his hand called “Omen” and shoots it to Zoro’s head, making him lie down with blood on his head like being hit by a bullet.
Imu then uses “Omen” on Hajrudin but this time it turns into a huge explosion.
We see that the black ring with eyes on Imu’s back is actually a ring of black fire.
Imu conjures another “Omen” but this time he gives it to Sommers, restoring Sommers immediately.
Imu tells Sommers to hurry up and finish the job.
It seems Imu is on a time limit if he stays in the lower world.
This really is Luffy and Loki’s only chance to defeat Imu.
Imu is clearly making a move that could even end his centuries-long existence.
Black Lunarian Wings and a Lunarian Flame?
Two black bird-like wings emerge from Imu’s back, then he flies to Gunko.
The flame on Imu’ spear transforms into a cannon, which fires a black flame resembling a devil face at the ice block where Gunko is, creating another huge explosion.
It seems Gunko might be enslaved once again but this time, Brook could battle Gunko alone and possibly free her like how Loki freed Harald.
Maybe Brook will find a way to save Gunko without ending her life.
Gaban senses Imu and recognizes this Haki as something he has not sensed since God Valley.
Then Imu arrives at Killingham and grants him with “Omen” flame that restores Killingham too.
Sanji attacks Imu with a kick but Imu blocks it with the sole of his foot.
Like the Lunarian King, who was 6.13 meters, Imu is quite large for a human-like being but not as big as the Giants.
Imu was about three and a half times shorter than Gerd, who was 17 meters tall.
And Sanji, who is 1.8 meters tall, is almost the size of Imu’s foot.
Then Imu turns around and kicks Sanji with his leg coated in black flames, which sets off another explosion.
We discussed in our early spoilers how this fight, from Sanji’s appearance to Imu showing off wings like King and even emitting flames, are hints towards a reveal, that both Sanji and Imu have some Lunarian lineage.
Omen is Devil’s Haki?
Also notice how unlike King, Imu’s Omen has multiple functions.
The presence of flames on a Lunarian’s back means that the Lunarian is nearly invulnerable.
Putting them off increases a Lunarian’s speed.
However, Omen has multiple functions:
First, with specific hand gestures for aiming, it is a projectile that could cause massive explosions.
Second, it regenerates Holy Knights and other bearers of Covenants, acting as a sort of fallen angelic halo over their heads.
Third, it seems to grant life to non-living objects, including its own black flames, just like Big Mom’s Soru Soru no Mi, meaning it “gives spirit” to anything.
That is why we see all the houses looking demonic.
Essentially, Omen could be the original power source of Imu’s Devil powers or at least an expression of that energy.
It is because Omen destroys like fire but it restores life to the fallen Holy Knights, adding essence for Imu.
This could also explains Imu’s impatience as he is making sure his Holy Knights do their jobs immediately.
That being said, it is interesting how the “Devil’s Aura” or “Devil’s Spirit” is countering Devil-named attacks.
The King of Hell’s Purgatory Ogre Cutter (Oni Giri wordplay) and Sanji’s Devil’s Flame is ineffective against Imu’s Devil’s Spirit.
Suddenly Loki appears and Imu starts talking to him.
Imu identifies Loki as the one who murdered “his servant” Harald 14 years ago but Loki is insulted by how his father Harald is called a servant, instead insisting that Harald was once King of Elbaph.
Lightning and dark clouds fall as Loki’s presence looms over Imu.
Imu is still much shorter than Loki and this chapter sets up a battle between the two.
Imu tells Loki that there would be fewer hardships if he was not around but Loki says that Elbaph is the place he wants to be.
When Loki calls Imu a fool, he uses the term “tako”, which just means octopus.
Probably because Imu initially appeared as a dark blob with tentacles.
There will be NO BREAK NEXT WEEK
One Piece Chapter 1181 will be released on April 26, 2026.
