Will Loki Turn into a Giant Squirrel? One Piece Chapter 1170 Pre-Week Spoilers!

What if Loki’s Squirrel Devil Fruit is more thematic than we realize, that it is more than about being “Nika the Destroyer” but about saving Elbaph and the world at large?

ONE PIECE © 1997 by Eiichiro Oda/SHUEISHA Inc.

One Piece Chapter 1170 may be far away from its release date of January 5, 2026 but we have some reliable spoilers to sate our One Piece appetites.

The chapter is entirely focused inside Aurust Castle.

The fight between “Dark Harald” and Shanks and Gaban continues, with Harald using a named attack.

He has not even used one in his two battles against Rocks D. Xebec or his various battles against other pirates.

Loki tames Ragnir, phrasing that is similar to Zoro taming Oden’s Enma, a weapon that is only animated from its consumption of the user’s Haki.

Squirrel Mythical Zoan?

We learn that Ragnir, the hammer, guards the National Treasure of Elbaph and it so happens to a Mythical Zoan, a Squirrel Devil Fruit, Model: Ratatoskr.

A Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr?

Ratatoskr is the guardian of Yggdrasil and is also Elbaph’s treasure.

In Norse mythology, Ratatoskr is the squirrel that runs up and down the Yggdrasil tree to send messages to the eagles on the top, messages of animosity between the eagles and the serpent Níðhöggr to further their hatred for each other.

In Chapter 1138: “The Harley”, the mural shows a squirrel warrior, which could be the original Ratatoskr.

On the Loki side of things, as a newborn infant in Chapter 1153: “The Birth of Loki”, Loki was able to climb Yggdrasil all by himself, like a squirrel would.

It would be funny that Loki believes he ate a Devil Fruit of destruction and yet would not appear to be like the laughing god or even a monstrous one.

Yet it would make sense in Oda fashion for a more obscure mythical beast to be the “Nika of Destruction”, especially since that is Ratatoskr’s role in the Yggdrasil cycle, as a destroyer, the gnawer of the tree and its roots.

However, this could be thematic because destruction is not treated as a bad thing, especially in real-life theories of revolution.

In the case of One Piece, Loki is not simply the Destroyer as he imagined himself and Rocks to be but rather the only person capable of preventing the decay of the entire world itself.

Since Imu plans to drown the world with the Ancient Weapons to perfect his utopia, Loki’s role as a mischief bringer, annoying as it is to the scandalized societies and hierarchies of the world, is meant to deter the slow decay of the Tree of Life, or of life itself.

Loki opens the treasure chest near the end of the chapter.

The Devil Fruit is revealed to be much larger, which is ironic given the small stature of the animal in question.

There will NO BREAK the week after the chapter’s release.

One Piece Chapter 1171 will be released on January 12, 2025.
