We finally see the Sixth Instrument and confirm what exactly happened to Rudo’s father. Can Enjin save Rudo without dying though?

GACHIAKUTA © 2022 Kei Urana/Kodansha

In the previous Gachiakuta chapter, we learn about Enjin’s past and how he was saved and named by a certain man, the previous holder of the Six Watchman Series Instruments.

Gachiakuta Chapter 166 is titled, “Obsesssion”

This chapter has 17 pages.

An early release ahead of the Golden Week holiday.

The chapter begins with Enjin, who is now 13 years old, still clinging to the umbrella while watching over a lighthouse, meant to warn people about the incoming Trash Beasts.

An older man, who only worked here recently and treats the teen Enjin as his senior, asks why he always has his umbrella up even though it is not even raining at all.

He also offers the 13 year old a drink and get called out.

Enjin explains that he works in the lighthouse to save up money for some reason.

A tattoo, rescue some kids sold into slavery and to find someone and or something.

He does all three, it seems.

Did Enjin’s rescuees end up in the Cleaners with him?

But most of all.

Enjin does this because he is waiting for the man who saved him, to thank him properly for giving him a name.

Even if the man himself remained nameless.

This connection with the umbrella is what makes it the Vital Instrument Umbreaker.

Enjin remarks that he might quit his job to get one that will take him to the Polluted Zones.

The old man recommends he joins the Cleaners.

If he is a Giver, there is no age requirement and any non-Givers can join by the age of 18.

Enjin realizes the old man is trying to get rid of him.

Probably for a better pay with less employees on the lighthouse.

Suddenly, the rain puts out the old man’s cigarette.

It feels like Enjin predicted the future there.

But he was focused on the cloaked man appearing on the ground, who is clearly the man who rescued Enjin.

In the present, Enjin spots Rudo in his wolf form and brings something out.

We finally see the face of the man who rescued Enjin.

We were right indeed as the man who rescued Enjin was indeed Rudo’s father, Alto Surebrec.

He carries a baby Rudo in front of the 13-year old Enjin.

Alto warns Enjin that he will break down and vanish.

He is worried about what will happen to Rudo after he is gone.

Enjin is overwhelmed.

He just met the most important man in his life after some years of not seeing him and it seems like he is going to die in front of him.

Alto throws a watch, the Sixth Watchman Series instrument.

However, he tells Enjin to not give this to anyone or even use it.

“When people think of a clock, they think of only one superpower.”

The clock imagery throughout the series has been feeding fans that impression as well.

Alto warns of an enormous price to pay for using this Instrument.

But with the price Alto warns Enjin about, are we going to see Enjin age and crumble like Alto or even die for Rudo’s sake?

This could be the reason for Enjin’s black nail polish on his fingers except for his right pinky finger.

It is likely he either wears them or they look like that as a consequence of using Time Walk.

Could this also be why Alto scarred Rudo’s hands in the first place?

We did theorize months ago that the scarring was done to make 3R Rudo’s true Vital Instrument.

It could also have to do with Mymo’s hypothesis, that only the broken and those with singular goals can use the Watchman Series.

Scarring Rudo or sealing a curse inside him could be the only ways he could let Rudo inherit it.

And Enjin already noticed what Alto’s intentions were.

He told Enjin not to use it, even to help someone else and we see a panel of baby Rudo.

Enjin knows that by saying “don’t push the button”, it is a clear code for pushing the button.

To ban something is to bring about its existence.

The chapter ends with Enjin activating this watch, Time Walk.

And he promises to live up to his name, Enjin.

Engine and one who connects.

The power to stop or accelerate time.

Either way, we will see it soon.

As announced on Kei Urana’s Twitter account on May 5th, Gachiakuta Chapter 167 will be released on May 13, 2026.

However, this chapter will be divided into two parts.

Part 2 will be released on May 20, 2026.
