DABURA IS THE BIGGEST FRAUD IN JJK! Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 18 Spoilers!
Dabura vs Mahoraga is still heating up as Dabura prepares to make his new move, to become the FASTEST CHARACTER IN JUJUTSU KAISEN
In the previous Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter, Tsurugi fuses with Rika, unleashing a new type of power as a physically gifted Heavenly Restriction Zenin descendant combines with the Queen of Curses!
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 18 is titled, “I Can Do It”
This chapter has 19 pages.
Defying Cursed Nature and the Natural World – Maru vs Tsurugi Takes a Turn!
The chapter begins where we left off as Tsurugi comes out with the fusion with Rika, taking on a martial arts pose and Maru does the same in the forefront of the panels, which is more shonen
Tsurugi-Rika clings to the floating rubble, with Rika remarking that this is fun like a rollercoaster even though she hates amusement parks due to the presence of children.
Tsurugi is annoyed and tells her to not speak without permission.
It seems like Shikigami Rika has gained sentience even after much rest.
She is basically the new era Sukuna, a cursed being sealed for nearly a century.
Maru is shocked by the amount of Cursed Energy Tsurugi, a person without any, is suddenly possessing and wonders what kind of human he is.
Maru realizes that this power is from a Cursed Tool, Yuta Okkotsu’s ring, which is the Gojo Clan’s most sacred treasure.
Maru notes that such overwhelming power could not be contained in a single person and it could only come from someone with unimaginable Cursed Energy, pouring so much into decades.
Yuta is aura-farming even with his middle-aged parent look and as a dead guy.
And Maru does not realize that Yuta had only done this for around 10 years, not only to maintain the real Rika Orimoto’s Cursed Spirit but also the Shikigami Rika produced from the remnants of the original together with Yuta’s Cursed Energy, which is said to be much more than Satoru Gojo but only around half of Sukuna’s amount.
Tsurugi-Rika lands a headbutt on Maru, who realizes that Tsurugi is not using any of the Ring’s Cursed Energy but raw physical power to prove that it is his own power and not Cursed Energy, not the Ring.
While Rika was needed to grant Tsurugi a physical buff, he is still rejecting his grandfather’s power so that he can become like his grandmother Maki, to use raw power in his own terms.
Nonetheless, Tsurugi apologizes as he has to win, to which Maru says that the Rumelians will do the same.
Maru defies the laws of nature with Chaos (part of his Chaos and Harmony) as he causes a whole forest to grow around him as a defense.
Maru has channeled some of Hanami’s original power in a way.
What an incredible turn for the duel between brothers of different races, Maru vs Tsurugi.
But that is not the focus of this chapter at all.
Dabura is CLOWNED ON By Mahoraga
Meanwhile, the two best aura-farmers of the entire franchise face off, with Mahoraga standing on top and Dabura looking up.
Like Maru’s pose at the start of the chapter, Yuji Iwasaki draws this scene in a more classic shonen scene as we get closeup of their faces in the page, more traditional than a Gege Akutami storyboard.
Dabura sees that Mahoraga is unaffected by his Light attacks after all.
The Light trap on Mahoraga resembles the Bleach Kido spell, Bakudo No. 63: “Rikujokoro”.
Even when Dabura plants his hands on Mahoraga’s face and unleash powerful light beams that resemble steel beams, Mahoraga is unfazed at all.
Seeing Light be nullified, Dabura took 2 chapters to realize exactly what Mahoraga’s adaptation involves.
Tanking a hit, the wheel begins to spin and he can fully adapt to the technique after the wheel finishes its rotation.
Mahoraga punches him and Dabura wonders if he will lose as he is out of moves.
Here comes the anime flashback effect.
We see Dabura meet up with Dura, moving away from his Deskunte tribesmen into the lower class Rumelian mountains.
Dura remarks that he should just get along with his own people but Dabura feels embarrassed that he is being a burden to Dura.
Dura clarifies that he has no problems with Dabura staying with him since no one around is good enough for fighting besides Dabura.
Dabura is isolated from his tribe, likely due to his unique powers, and by staying among the warriors, he makes them uncomfortable due to their pride.
In the present, Dabura lies within a ruined Tokyo building, likely the same building Yuji was on at the start of Season 3.
What coincidental timing I suppose.
Here, Dabura was wondering if he will lose and expresses fear.
In contrast to Sukuna, who has never once shown any fears or regrets, Dabura doubts himself.
The Unwilling Strongest: Dabura Karaba
In his youth, Dabura was a shy, stuttering mess and feels isolated because of his strength.
He feels a stinging pain in his chest when he is rejected by others.
Like Gojo and Sukuna, he is treated as beyond anyone’s reach of understanding.
Even though Dabura does not like fighting, the fact he is too strong, expresses no ill intent and puts down others without even trying makes him look weird, look like an insult to the concept of Warrior that the Simurians hold dear.
He is essentially a paradox: the fullest power of the male specimen of their race but also a completely isolated, unwanted individual.
Yet he is their tool to assert dominance over the whole planet, all by using Dabura’s one weakness: his beloved sister.
And by forcing Dabura to choose who to spare: Dura or his sister, the Deskunte King would have had control over his life, if not for two boys, Maru and Cross, and the Mul Ore Dura left behind.
Together with the twins’ Harmony, they created a vessel to fly away from this desolate world.
In essence, we see that present Dabura is only playing the role of Dura, protecting the Rumelians but deep down, he sees no fulfillment in any form of violence, only shackled by the ghost of duty and regret.
A man who hated and never tried fighting has ultimately killed his best friend, the one who fights with his all for a greater purpose, without even trying.
Now he has to live with that regret.
Like how Gojo lost Geto because he was the “strongest” and able to shoulder the Jujutsu role and world, Dabura lost Dura by killing him without real effort and for mercy, seemingly staining Dura’s warrior pride in the name of honoring his beloved friend.
Now alive with the burden, Dabura’s choice is to continue “becoming” Dura, a strong warrior who tries to fight for.
But Dura in this flashback clarifies the real problem here.
It is not that Dabura dislike fighting but that he never fought in the first place because there is no one else as strong as himself.
And now we get an amazing callback to Sukuna and Gojo’s dynamic in Jujutsu Kaisen.
“Someone strong enough to defeat Dabura will come and he will be able to understand”
But this might not be Mahoraga, the strongest Shikigami spirit who can tame all phenomena.
The one to teach Dabura “love” is clearly Yuji Itadori, a man who also does not desire violence but now lacks a purpose.
Like how Yuji revealed his full self to Sukuna as Jujutsu Kaisen’s Boddhisatva in Chapter 265: “That Day”, Yuji could also be the same for Dabura, helping the strongest find love and meaning.
The Power of Friendship Strikes Again!
Dabura returns to the present being kneed by Mahoraga.
Dabura realizes that fighting because you want it and refusing to fight because you do not want to are not a real battle.
He thinks of Dura’s final will for Dabura to watch over the Rumelians and also of the sister Dabura left behind.
Dabura thinks of the people of Rumel and declares that he has a reason he must fight.
By having that purpose, this makes him a Warrior and so Dabura stops Mahoraga’s punch with the power of friendship.
Apologizing to Mahoraga, Dabura chooses to fight properly.
The True Power of Void and Light
Now Dabura is able to turn malice into physical matter and to produce light from his body.
However, Dabura has never once moved his own body at the speed of light because his body could not withstand it.
Now Dabura chooses to overwhelm Mahoraga with physical power.
Power is weight and speed, as the late misogynist Naoya Zenin said.
Except Mahoraga also adapts to strategies and physical attacks.
Mahoraga vs Sukuna, especially in the anime, shows us that Mahoraga can learn tactics, not just nullify Cursed Techniques.
He even learned how to make feints and deceive because Sukuna wanted to corrupt a divine being like Mahoraga.
If Mahoraga recalls his past adaptations, it is possible for Mahoraga to adapt to lightspeed.
But to win, Dabura needs to actually overwhelm the adaptation process, such that Mahoraga cannot cope with the burden of lightspeed.
It is a battle of endurance.
Can Dabura’s body last to destroy Mahoraga or will Mahoraga outlast Dabura with Adaptation?
No one in Jujutsu Kaisen, not even Satoru Gojo through the Limitless or Ryomen Sukuna through sheer raw speed, could be faster than the speed of light.
Now the time has come for Dabura to reach the impossible!
