The LEGENDARY Title Drop! Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 41 Review!

In the previous Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War episode, Uryu reveals his true purpose was to destroy Yhwach with his secret ability and we get the layout for the final battles: Yoruichi faces off against Askin Nakk Le Vaar the Deathdealing, the majority of the Gotei 13 face off against Gerald Valkyrie the Miracle that grew to his God Size, Uryu Ishida vs Jugram Haschwalth the Balance and Ichigo Kurosaki and Orihime Inoue against Yhwach the Almighty

Episode Title and Chapters Adapted

Episode 41 is titled “God of Thunder”

Episode 41 adapts Chapter 662: “God of Thunder 3” and Chapter 663: “God of Thunder 4”, where the chapter title is from, and Chapter 672: “Son of Darkness”, (pages 7-9) for a total of 46 pages adapted.

While we got the standard adaptation, much of the manga content is action-heavy and fast-paced and therefore, we see how half of the episode’s contents are anime-original.

Anime Expansion: A Beautiful Nightmare

There is no better way to start the finale of Bleach than this scene.

Yhwach witnesses Ichigo defeating him with what appears to be his original Shikai’s version of Zangetsu, all the while Yhwach is in his base form, without the Soul King’s Reiatsu around him.

The drawing style and lighting is almost reminsicent of early Bleach, to the days where such lighting represented the entry of the spiritual world into the World of the Living.

Da Li Chen, the episode director and storyboarder, has been working hard to make the entire episode look incredible and this cold open might be an even bigger standout due to the different artstyle used.

While Yhwach awakens to this nightmare in delight like in the manga, in the anime, we get a recap of the battles that already happened in Cour 3 by showing them reflected on his eyes.

Spliced between Yhwach’s monologue is an anime-original scene of Haschwalth marching with Soldat, likely in preparation for the invasion into the World of the Living, that is until Uryu shows up.

NEW SCENE: Another Expanding Wide Shot of Wahrwelt

Another exciting wideshot of Warhwelt takes place, where we see the entire place.

The music played at the cold open of Episode 33 “Gate of the Sun” is used here as it should.

This does have a bit of a clumsy moment where we see Gerard unsheathe Hoffnung early in front of the awaiting Vizard, still waiting from the last episode, even when he has consistently avoided but it is nice to see him compared to the rest of Wahrwelt and imagining the place holding his massive weight.

We see Bazz-B’s corpse lying on Silbern while we pass by Yoruichi vs Askin and then a hole made during Ichigo’s fight with Uryu in the last episode and towards the lower level, where it ends with Uryu vs Jugram.

From this point on, much of the episode will be focused on anime-original content that is quite rich with lore and detail that the manga did not provide, especially to show how the cast knew about Yhwach’s plans and their own interpretation of what would happen should he succeed.

Anime-Original Fight: Almighty Jugram Haschwalth vs Vollstandig Uryu Ishida

One of the best-animated fights, the anime-original Jugram vs Uryu displays more of their abilities, as this episode hints that Jugram’s command of the Almighty is not limited to future sight, which we do see with more displays beyond Jugram predicting Uryu’s betrayal in the last episode (like swiftly moving against Uryu’s Vollstandig attacks and even walking on his floating arrowheads).

We also see Jugram control the dark Spiritual Pressure of the Soul King, the Torrents of his Power that control dead Soldat and even the Statues guarding Wahrwelt.

It ends in this episode with Jugram cornering Uryu on a broken platform, where below them they see the red portal showing the Distortion in the World of the Living.

Anime-Original: The Collapse of the Three Worlds from the Urahara Shop

We get a recap of what the distortion is, both from Jugram explaining the purpose of wiping out so many Hollows all around Japan and Tessai and Jinta observing the phenomenon swallowing up a Hollow Jinta’s swing threw.

Haschwalth reveals something that is more relevant to the Hell Arc: that the deaths of Genryusai Yamamoto and Squad Zero have upset the Balance, culminating with the death of Adnyeus the Soul King to fulfill Yhwach’s goal.

Welt: a nation that solely benefits the deprived Quincy race.

Manga-Faithful: The God of Thunder Title Drop

A lot of the God of Thunder content remains consistent from the manga, including the iconic Yoruichi shot of her rear, which had gone viral due to those who have watched the compilation film version.

Many fans were concerned about this controversial bit being cut but thankfully this is retained.

On top of that, Askin vs Yoruichi since the last episode has received the most consistent treatment in terms of animation.

Alongside Jugram vs Uryu, this fight has been given the most focus in terms of high-octane animated movement, to convey Yoruichi’s speed and precision strikes and Da Li Chen has a role in this, Satoshi Sakai’s wonderful special effects and explosions and the final cut done by Masaaki Endo.

However, it is all for naught as she falls victim to Askin’s Deathdealing Schrift and it is up to Kisuke Urahara to step in, just as he enters his unique and cool-looking Vollstandig, where his wings and clothing follow a circular pattern, as they are tied to his Gift Bereich, the largest Gift Ball he can produce.

“Being so venomous

goes right to your head,

doesn’t it?”

We finally get Askin’s poem from Volume 68, with the same mugshot at the back cover but colored teal instead of his signature purple color.

Once again, this fits his but in a way, this has better timing than his volume poem usage, although to be fair, Tite Kubo really liked Askin and needed him on a cover anyway.

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 42 is titled, “Son of Darkness” and as an episode, will be released on August 1, 2026.

Talks:

After the first three episodes there was a talk involving several of the voice actors

Ichigo VA comments on the new key visual: “Has everyone noticed? The swords stuck here—they’re all Ichigo’s swords from his past,” and “I just heard that this is the first time a background has been added to the main visual for BLEACH”

Urahara VA talked about Urahara’s Bankai and commented that the way she “protects” Urahara is “cute”

Askin VA: “I was deeply moved by the unique approaches that make this anime stand out – the visual effects were so intense, I kept asking myself ‘How many times is this place going to explode?!’ And the 3D camera work as well…!!”

Uryuu’s VA : praised the speed-vs-speed intellectual battle and the brilliant direction using the visual contrast between red and blue in his fight against Jugram

Haschwalth’s VA also praised the visual direction, saying: “The fight was stylish, sleek, and packed with incredibly fine details and movements.”

Morita: “I don’t feel like the series has reached its final cour yet. Right now it feels as if we’re showing you the very first epi sode for the first time, as if we’re introducing Ichigo to you for the first time. I hope everyone enjoys it all the way to the very last moment”

Kisuke’s VA (Miki) addressed Ichigo’s VA (Morita) at the end of the stage event, saying: “Morita-kun, congratulations. This is the end. You’ve run the entire way to the end!”

Morita said “it still doesn’t feel like it’s over”, to which the host Chiaki Matsuzawa responded, “when BLEACH ends, BLEACH begins”

Morita ended the talk by yelling out “Bankai!”, after jokingly mocking the way Renji’s VA pronounces it

After the first screening there was a second screening exclusively for Klub Outside members (note: Japanese fans in general are very anti-sharing Klub Outside information, so most of this is pretty vague):

Kubo secretly sat in the audience with the fans before getting on stage

“Mr. Kubo shared tons of behind-the-scenes stories about the plot, characters, how the names came about, and all sorts of creative insights!”

“The voice actors who took the stage each asked Kubo a question, and he kindly answered them, but all the questions were so wonderful, and I got to hear such great stories! Because Mr. Kubo’s ideas are superhuman, there were many moments where ordinary people’s understanding couldn’t keep up, and it was fun.”

Kubo told some behind-the-scenes secrets that haven’t even been revealed in the Klub Outside Q&As yet

Kubo revealed that Ichigo’s surname was originally going to be “Tsujimura”

One person said “Kubo-sensei’s talk was meaningful” and then mentioned the words “spinoff” and “Karaburi”, but it’s not clear to me whether those things were actually discussed or it was just wishful thinking

A surprise birthday celebration was also thrown for Kubo, and a cake was brought out.
