This Legendary Manga Will Return from a Two Decade Hiatus

After 16 years, a legendary manga might end its long hiatus and conclude its story.
On August 14, 2025, in an interview featured in the newly-released “The World Of Ai Yazawa’s NANA”, Nana creator Ai Yazawa stated that the story is already in its final stage so future development is mostly decided.
Although there might be some changes along her original plans, Yazawa says she is doing her best to ensure she can release chapters to see how the story will turn out.
However, it is clarified here that there is no definite date for Nana’s return or if she has actually finished the story, only that Yazawa has decided to push through with concluding the story.
Commemorating Yazawa’s 40 years as a mangaka and 25 years of Nana, the guidebook features 110 questions, commentary with panels, and new illustrations, which have been translated.
For context, Nana has been on hiatus since June 2009 due to Yazawa’s chronic illness and was was officially announced in August of the same year.
About Nana
Nana is a manga series written and illustrated by Ai Yazawa in May 26, 2000 but has been on hiatus since May 26, 2009.
Published in Shueisha’s monthly shōjo manga magazine Cookie, the manga has collected 21 volumes but with Chapters 81 to 84 remaining uncollected or officially translated due to the hiatus.
The manga would be adapted by Madhouse (Death Note, Hunter x Hunter 2011, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) from April 5, 2006 to March 28, 2007 with a total of 47 episodes and covering only the first 41 chapters.
By 2019, the manga had over 50 million copies in circulation.
Nana is the story of two characters sharing the same first name, Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu, two women who move to Tokyo at the age of 20, with the former pursuing fame and the other pursuing romance in the big city.
