On January 17, 2026, it was announced that Minami no Teio by Dai Tennouji and Rikiya Gou will be ending in 4 chapters, meaning by early February 2026, this series that had started since around January of 1992 (the first volume came out on March 16, 1992) will be concluded.

Published by Nihon Bungeisha Co., Ltd’s Weekly Manga Goraku, this series has around 1,682 chapters and 186 volumes, along with selling 53 million copies worldwide.

This makes Minami no Teio the fourth longest-running manga of all time and the second longest-running manga at present.

The series has gone on to produce multiple live-action and anime adaptations since 1993.

For context, One Piece and its 114 volumes and 26 years are only at 17th place and the 13th longest-running manga at present.

The same magazine, Weekly Manga Goraku, also hosts the 6th placer, Silver Fang by Yoshihiro Takahashi , which is actually part of a larger franchise that includes the original Silver Fang (1983 to 1987) and the five Silver Fang Weed sequels (1999 to present) with 156 total volumes.

Minami no Teio is the story of Ginjiro Manda, the ruthless “Demon of Minami”, a moneylender in Osaka’s Minami district, who operates on a strict 10% interest (“toichi”) system and relentlessly pursues debtors.
