Anime Explained

After 2 years of absolute silence, there’s FINALLY an update on Sony Entertainment’s One Punch Man live-action film. Yes, for those who have forgotten, Sony first announced that they’re working on a One Punch Man live-action film in April 2020 and in 2022, Justin Lin, who previously worked on The Fast and the Furious 3-6 and Star Trek Beyond, was roped into the project by being its director.

On April 12, 2024, hollywoodreporter just CONFIRMED that Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon will join the team along with Heather Anne Campbell to write the script.

Earlier in 2020, it was announced that Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner would be the scriptwriters but now, it seems like Dan and Heather will replace them and rewrite EVERYTHING. Reasons for this change are unknown so far.

Apart from Rick and Morty, Dan Harmon has created other shows like the Community, Strange Planet, Krapopolis and such. He co-created Rick and Morty along with Justin Roiland, which ended up becoming one of the top-rated comedies on television, with its eighth season on the horizon. He’s known more for his satirical and comical writing so One Punch Man, being a parody on Shonen, is tailor-made for him.

Heather Anne Campbell has also worked on Rick and Morty by being the scriptwriter for 3 episodes. She’s also worked on other shows like Corporate, Miracle Workers, the Twilight Zone, AOK, and written few episodes for Saturday Night Live.

Heather, having worked on drama, would add a serious tone to Dan’s comedic touch.
