One Piece and Naruto Kabuki Actor Icihkawa Ennosuke IV (real name: Takahiko Kinoshi) was announced on Nov 17, 2023, to be sentenced to three years in suspended prison, rather than five, by the Tokyo District Court.
Earlier in July 28, the actor was arrested by the Japanese police for encouraging his parents to commit suicide by giving them sleeping pills since May 17.
It is believed that the incident was a family suicide pact, after a certain magazine published a report, accusing him of sexually abusing and bullying others in the theater world.
At their residence in Tokyo, the three individuals were found incapacitated. On May 18 at approximately 10:15 a.m., the remains of the parents were discovered at the Tokyo residence of Ennosuke’s manager. However, Ennosuke himself was found to be “conscious but in a hazy condition” and transported to the hospital.
According to the verdict, Ennosuke disclosed to his parents his intention to take his own life once he became aware of the forthcoming magazine article. The report states that his parents initially dissuaded him from carrying out the plan, but subsequent deliberation led them to reach a joint decision to end their life.
Ennosuke, who was “filled with regret,” admitted the allegations during his trial and conveyed his remorse. On Monday, November 20th, the official notification of Ennosuke’s sentence was issued; in the absence of an appeal from either the prosecution or the defense, the sentence stands.
Ennosuke started his career in the 80s and was a part of the One Piece “Super Kabuki”, a new form of theater where traditional Kabuki and other effects and music are mixed.
The One Piece Kabuki play was successful, and he was to work in the upcoming Demon Slayer Kabuki play, scheduled to come out next year.
