Japanese Society And Anime NYC Unveils The First American Manga Awards!

The first American Manga Awards will be inaugurated on August 22, 2024.

On June 3, Anime NYC and Japan Society announced that they are collaborating to bring the first American Manga Awards.

The first American Manga Awards will be inaugurated on August 22, 2024.

Author and translator Matt Alt will host the ceremony and reception. He will be honoring professionals in the industry, including the likes of Frederik L. Schodt.

Furthermore, the categories for the manga awards include:

  • Mangaka Hall of Fame
  • Manga Publishing Hall of Fame
  • Best New Manga
  • Best Continuing Manga
  • Best New Edition of Classic Manga
  • Best Translation
  • Best Lettering
  • Best Publication Design

The American Manga Awards committee will be in charge of selecting entrants to the Mangaka Hall of Fame and the Manga Publishing Hall of Fame.

These awards will celebrate lifetime achievement by the individuals who have made significant contributions to the manga’s introduction, growth and creative influence in North America.

Two nominated judges recognised for their expertise in the respective fields will be in charge of the nominees for Best Translation, Best Lettering and Best Publication Design.

The nominees for Best New Manga, Best Continuing Manga Series, and Best New Edition of Classic Manga will be selected by a committee of five experts on the subject matter.

These include:

  • Journalists
  • Librarians
  • Reviewers

For a series to be eligible for the awards, it must have been published in English between August 1, 2023 and July 30, 2024.
