Is Vinland Saga Ending This June?
Reports suggest that the Vinland Saga manga is coming to an end this June but the full story suggests that is not the case.
On June 12, 2025, it was announced by various sources that Vinland Saga will be ending this month with the release of Chapter 220 on June 25, 2025.
For full context, this news came after a post from Rikkyo University, located in Toshima, Japan, for a Public Symposium titled “Narrating, Analysing and Depicting the Middle Ages: From Medieval Icelandic Literature to Contemporary Japanese Historical Creation” that is set for July 19, 2025.
In particular, the Vinland Saga author Makoto Yukimura will be attending the symposium’s second part, where the news post reads:
“In the second part, “Historical fiction and the Western Middle Ages,” we will welcome Makoto Yukimura, author of the manga “Vinland Saga,” set in medieval Nordic times, and Futaba Sato, author of “Anna Komnena,” whose main character is the only female historian in the Western Middle Ages. They will talk about their respective works, which have reached the final episode, especially in relation to medieval Nordic times.”
Manga fans have been accustomed to the usage of the word “Final Chapter/Episode” to be similar to the word “climax” or the last 5 episodes of a certain arc or the entire series.
The Anna Komnena manga released its final volume 6 on January 9, 2025 after a 4-year run since 2021.
Meanwhile, Vinland Saga has yet to release Volume 29 or confirm if it is ending, outside of multiple announcements by Yukimura himself that the series is ending.
Volume 29 might likely contain Chapters 210 to 217, which total 188 pages by themselves, unless the 36-page long Chapter 217 is not counted.
For context, Volume 28, released on June 21, 2024, has 192 pages, with Chapters 202 to 209 that total 184 pages.
The average Vinland Saga chapter length is around 24 pages and it is a monthly manga release.
There are still 2 chapters left that total 54 pages, with the coming Chapter 220 adding to about another 20 or more pages.
Most likely, as the event is on July, it will mean that after the conference, Chapter 221 will be released and will complete the content for Volume 30.
If this chapter has over 50 pages, even reaching near the length of the 88-paged Chapter 1, we could see the volume completed.
That or by Chapter 222 set for August.
Considering it has a book format that lumps in two volumes, it should be likely that Vinland Saga will end on Volume 30.
However, the Vinland Saga online community of fans has clarified that the news on the June ending is not an official announcement and they will have to wait until the June issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon is released.
Either way, it looks like Vinland Saga will be ending this year.
