No Good News For the Vinland Saga Anime, According to Author
The chances of Vinland Saga Season 3 being produced seemingly get slimmer by the day.
On October 22, 2026, on his personal Twitter (X) account, Makoto Yukimura expressed his thanks to all the fan letters sent to the Kodansha Editorial Department, noting how since there are so many letters, he intends to reply to them through his social media account instead.
When prompted by a fan for updates on Vinland Saga Season 3, author Makoto Yukimura gave quite a definitive answer, there is “no good news about that. The project is not currently in progress”.
Adapting the much acclaimed Slave Arc (or Farmland Arc for the fans), Vinland Saga Season 2 ended on June 20, 2023
Previously in an interview with Le Monde on January 8th, Yukimura clarified that he has no knowledge of any anime production by that point.
This tweet could still be in reference to that statement of lacking any information on its production.
This could be a communication issue or that there has been no progress meant to be reported to Yukimura.
This could also be tied to appeals by animators such as the anime’s character designer, Takahiko Abiru, calling for fans to raise their enthusiasm for the anime to the production company, Twin Engine.
Between 2019 and 2023 was a 4-year gap, where Vinland Saga staff moved over to MAPPA to properly adapt Season 2, with MAPPA providing its own animators, mostly from Attack on Titan or Hell’s Paradise units.
With the fourth year approaching in 2027 and with this news, things may not look as positive, with 2030 being looked at as the potential return year.
On another note, Yukimura has answered some questions, such as Ragnir being born in the summer but with no specified date.
Yukimura also confirmed he had previously brought up other character’s birthdays, naming Canute given his relation to his father figure Ragnir.
Most recently, Yukimura did reveal Askeladd’s birthday on October 20th, the day it was asked.
Vinland Saga has recently concluded its 20-year run on July 25, 2025 after 220 chapters and 29 volumes.
