Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Film Exceeds 7 Billion Yen At The Japanese Box Office

The first part of the Haikyu!! Final movie series titled “The Dumpster Battle” is a roaring success in Japan, with the film bagging 890 million yen ($5.88 million) on the opening day, making it the fourth-highest-grossing opening day in Japan’s cinema history.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle also made the biggest opening of the year with 2.23 billion yen ($14.87 million) and crossed the 5 billion yen mark in just 17 days!

As of Mar 17, the film has exceeded 7 billion yen ($46.27 million) with over 4,910,000 admissions in 30 days in Japanese theatres.

About Haikyu!!:

Haikyu!! is a manga series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2012 to July 2020, with its chapters collected in 45 tankōbon volumes.

From April to September 2014, MBS broadcast a 25-episode adaptation of the Production I.G anime television series. Between October 2015 and March 2016, a second season consisting of 25 episodes was broadcast.

Between October and December 2016, a third season consisting of ten episodes was broadcast. In two installments spanning from January to December 2020, a total of 25 episodes comprised the fourth season, which was officially unveiled at the Jump Festa ’19.

Based off of the original Weekly Shonen Jump manga series from Haruichi Furudate, Haikyu!! is a slice-of-life sports anime revolving around Shoyo Hinata’s love of volleyball. Inspired by a small-statured pro volleyball player, Hinata creates a volleyball team in his last year of middle school. Unfortunately the team is matched up against the “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama’s team in their first tournament and inevitably lose. After the crushing defeat, Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama After entering high school, Hinata joins the volleyball team only to find that Tobio has also joined.
