New Haikyu!! Movie Shatters Box Office Record On Opening Day!

This makes it the fourth-highest-grossing opening day in Japan’s cinema history

On Friday, the official Twitter account for Haikyu!! English tweeted that “Haikyu!!: The Dumpster Battle”  movie earned 890 million yen on its opening day.

This makes it the fourth-highest-grossing opening day in Japan’s cinema history.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle is the first of 2-part finale movies concluding the Haikyu! series. On December 14, 2023, the first PV of the film was released, announcing the Japanese release date of February 16, 2024.

In addition to the trailer, 2 million Japanese movie watchers will receive a new chapter drawn by original author Haruichi Furudate himself in the form of a whole new volume, “Haikyu!! Volume 33.5” (128 pages in total).

According to the official site, the volume will contain:

  • 16 pages of original manga drawn by Haruichi Furudate
  • 32 daily illustrations of all characters drawn by the author
  • 40 questions and answers to the author

About Haikyu!:

Haikyu!! is a manga series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate.

It was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2012 to July 2020, with its chapters collected in 45 tankōbon volumes.

From April to September 2014, MBS broadcast a 25-episode adaptation of the Production I.G anime television series.

Between October 2015 and March 2016, a second season consisting of 25 episodes was broadcast.

Between October and December 2016, a third season consisting of ten episodes was broadcast.

In two installments spanning from January to December 2020, a total of 25 episodes comprised the fourth season, which was officially unveiled at the Jump Festa ’19.

Based off of the original Weekly Shonen Jump manga series from Haruichi Furudate, Haikyu!! is a slice-of-life sports anime revolving around Shoyo Hinata’s love of volleyball.

Inspired by a small-statured pro volleyball player, Hinata creates a volleyball team in his last year of middle school.

Unfortunately the team is matched up against the “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama’s team in their first tournament and inevitably lose.

After the crushing defeat, Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama After entering high school, Hinata joins the volleyball team only to find that Tobio has also joined.
