Gintama Remake Announced
Gintama is not going away anywhere as along with a spin-off anime, we get a remake of one of the series’ best arcs, setting the stage for potential remakes in the future.
On August 16, 2025, we see a trailer for a film remake of the Yoshiwara in Flames Arc, the 24th arc of the series covering 9 episodes (139-147), updating the series to match its current quality, close to the Final film.
The film will be released on 2026.
Alongside this announcement is a new trailer of the slice-of-life comedy spinoff of Gintama, “Ginpachi-sensei”, which is based on the light novel “Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei” , authored by Tomohito Ōsaki and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi, where the characters are reimagined as high school students & Gintoki as their teacher.
The spinoff is set for October 6, 2025.
Interestingly, the author, Hideaki Sorachi, commented on the remake’s existence, saying that:
“It has been six years since the manga ended, yet the series continues to be exploited as a tool for greedy adults’ pocket money. Watching it squeezed until it loses all flavor, I still find myself thinking it’s a writer’s dream—while looking at my bankbook,”
“Gintama is rare in that its anime, novels, movies, and live-action all managed—well, at least to look like they managed—to succeed, pulling off a kind of last-minute escape. But at this pace, we won’t be able to stop until it eventually crashes and burns.”
Sorachi also makes fun of the lead voice actor playing the protagonist Gintoki, Tomikazu Sugita, saying that Gintama’s adaptation should come to an end with “a glorious explosion, maybe triggered by Sugita’s lower body issues.”
