Earthquakes Strike Japan In Places Suzume Visited In The Same Order Post The Film’s TV Premiere
If nature was really following Shinkai’s script, then the next earthquake would strike in Kobe city, located in Hyogo Prefecture, or Ochanomizu, Tokyo.
Everyone knows that Japan is one of those countries that is most prone to earthquakes. But it’s more unfortunate to learn that the most recent ones followed a movie’s plot to the dot, which was about earthquakes. It could be entirely coincidental, mind you.
Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume film aired on April 5 in Japan after a huge success at the box office. Later in the month, two earthquakes struck Kyushu Island and Ehime Prefecture. Suzume’s journey began from her home in Kyushu island, Miyazaki city, then she headed to Matsuyama city in Ehime prefecture, then Kobe city in Hyogo prefecture, Tokyo Metropolitan area, and ended her journey in her hometown in Tohoku region.
Rui from Twitter noticed these similarities and posted the maps of where the earthquakes struck and according to her, it follows the exact same pattern Suzume visited in the film.

The tweet reads, “Since Suzume‘s first broadcast, earthquakes have occurred in the order Suzume traveled.”
But the user was quick to reply to the post that they didn’t mean any harm to those living in those areas and referred to the whole connection as coincidental.
“I love Suzume and thought this was a great coincidence so I just posted it, with no other intention. I apologize to anyone who was offended. However, it’s a really good movie, so I hope you’ll watch it.”
A lot of people in the comments were speculating about where the next earthquake would happen. If nature was really following Shinkai’s script, then the next earthquake would strike in Kobe city, located in Hyogo Prefecture, or Ochanomizu, Tokyo. But so far, nothing has happened and a month has passed since the two earthquakes. So fingers crossed, nothing awful happens…
Officials described the plot of Suzume as follows:
Suzume is a 17-year-old, who lives in a quiet town in Kyushu. One day, she meets a traveling young man who is looking for a “door.” Suzume decides to follow him and discovers an old door in the ruins in the mountains. As if drawn by something, Suzume reaches out for the door… What follows is Suzume’s liberation and growth as she closes the “doors” that cause misfortune in abandoned places around Japan.
