One Piece’s Latest Volume Makes Crucial Change to the Celestial Dragons

With Gunko’s family name revealed, we now have more questions than answers.

On June 29, 2025, on Twitter, the user Sandman revealed that, with the release of One Piece Volume 112, the textbook introduction for Shamrock and Gunko has been significantly altered in Chapter 1137.

In the original release, they were simply called “Figarland Shamrock” and “Gunko” without the Saint prefix.

Not only do both now receive the Saint title but Gunko’s family name has been confirmed to be Manmeyer, making her the second confirmed member of that family in the series similar to Sommers for the Shepherd family, the family of one of the Five Elders.

This could dispel the theory that Gunko was an orphan or that Shamrock was a clone taken to become a soldier or God’s Knights and further leans on the idea that Celestial Dragons have lineages or can be trained to serve the military order.

More importantly, this fully dispels the idea that Gunko is a member of the Revolutionary Army and that the goggles seem more like mere coincidence.

In Episode 1130: “A History Erased! God Valley Of Despair”, we also received the official colors for God’s Knights and the Celestial Dragons present during the God Valley Incident, including the first member of the Manmeyer family introduced, having teal or light blue hair, which could indicate that this will be Gunko’s hair color instead of the blonde shade colorists normally give her.

Of note, the Japanese for Saint differs by gender, with men being given the suffix “-sei” (Shamrock-sei) while women are called “-gu” (Gunko-gu).

Gu is a term reserved for Princesses or Japanese female royalty but for the context of Celestial Dragons, it is “Saintess” (Santa in some languages) or “Holiness”

Additionally, Imu has been referred to as “Imu-sei”, which seems to confirm that Imu is male, unless Oda intends to change this or has used the term to conceal Imu’s true gender.

Recently, with the release of One Piece Chapter 1153, we see the release of Imu plushies across Japan, which has been trending, such that it was featured in Oda’s author comment:

“I bought an Imu figure. It’s kinda funny. A plush is supposed to come out as well I can’t wait to play with it!”
