One Piece: Who Are the Giant Warrior Pirates

One Piece has seen Emperors of the Sea and Warlords among humans and fishmen, with Devil Fruits and Haki that could shake the very foundations of the world.

But no one knows the true strength of Elbaf’s most famous pirate crew.

The Giant Warrior Pirates are our first and only taste of the power the fearsome warriors of Elbaf are said to have. So what do we know about them so far?

Chiffon has stated in Chapter 858 that Elbaf holds the mightiest army in the world, an army so feared that the World Government has taken every measure to acquire giants of their own, whether they are trained as Marines or raised as Cipher Pol agents.

Additionally, Caesar Clown, an ex-World Government scientist and self-proclaimed rival of Dr. Vegapunk, has focused part of his research into Gigantification, a project to turn ordinary humans into giants. 

Who are the Giant Warriors Pirates

We know the Giant Warrior Pirates through their two captains, Dorry the Blue Ogre and Brogy the Red Ogre, who the Straw Hats encounter in Little Garden. This is also where readers learn of their origins.

Their Jolly Roger is a black skull wearing a helmet with two horns, and with two crossed swords underneath. Noticeably, the skull also resembles an ancient giant like Oars and Oars Jr.

The Giant Warrior Pirates are currently an all-giant crew of an unknown number of giants. However, Hadrujin, a member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, is currently leading the New Giant Warrior Pirates as a successor crew to the original.

How Strong are the Giant Warrior Pirates?

The captains, Dorry and Brogy, each have 100 million berry bounties. However, these bounties were issued a century ago. This means that if we take inflation into account, their bounties would be much bigger, almost equal or above Luffy’s 500 million berry bounty at the end of the Dressrosa Arc.

In terms of abilities, the Giants possess immense strength, stronger than even the largest humans, thanks to their greater size.

While not shown to have Haki as of yet, the Giants have some knowledge of it and might even know how to use it, considering how they managed to block the attacks of the Five Elders, who were transformed into their monster forms.

History

The crew was once commanded by Jarul and Jorul, who became heroes of the Elbaf giants. This is similar to how the Kuja pirates, led by the Amazon Lily empress, are treated in their own territory. The two old captains would give up their positions to Dorry and Brogy. Based on this history, the Giant Warrior Pirates have always been led by two captains.

Around 100 years before the start of the manga, Dorry and Brogy separated from their crew after the two fought over which of their fish was bigger. As is the Elbaf custom, the duo decided to duel for their honor and settled on the island of Little Garden, leading to the crew breaking up.

Some were captured and about to be executed by the World Government but a human named Mother Carmel intervened, telling the authorities that executing the Giant Warrior Pirates would signal a war between humans and Giants.

This rescue enabled Carmel to gain the good graces of Elbaf’s royalty. Unknown to them at the time, this was Carmel’s plan to traffic the Giant children to be sold to the World Government every two years to be trained as Marines or Cipher Pol agents.

About 50 years later, two crew members, Oimo and Kashii headed out to look for their captains out of worry but were captured by the Marines. The World Government tricked them into thinking that they held Dorry and Brogy as prisoners and offered to free the two captains in exchange for Oimo and Kashii serving as guards for the front gate to Enies Lobby for the next 100 years.

Present-day

During the Little Garden Arc of the Arabasta Saga, Luffy and the Straw Hats manage to meet Dorry and Brogy. Usopp gains inspiration from the two captains to be a brave warrior of the sea just like them and dreams of going to Elbaf as a spiritual homeland.

Through their combo attack, Hakoku Sovereignty move, the two giant captains help the Straw Hats escape the Sea King blocking their path out of Little Garden.

In the Enies Lobby Arc, Usopp would meet the two guardians, Oimo and Kashii to tell them about their captains still being alive on Little Garden, which resulted in the two Giants siding with the Straw Hats and wreaking havoc on the World Government facility.

In the Egghead Island Arc, the Giant Warrior Pirates would help Shanks destroy the Victoria Punk, the flagship of Eustass “Captain” Kid’s crew. Eventually, they would reach the Straw Hats and help the crew overcome the Buster Call on Egghead Island and the arrival of the Five Elders.

The captains, Dorry and Brogy, help Monkey D. Luffy and Jewelry Bonney face off against Jaygarcia Saturn and the other Five Elders, eventually helping the Straw Hats escape Egghead Island as they all set sail for Elbaf.
