One Piece Theory: Imu Revealed the Mary Geoise National Treasure
One Piece just introduced one of the most mysterious objects in the series and it might have already been hinted as far back as the Dressrosa Arc.

In Chapter 761: “Ope Ope no Mi”, Donquixote Doflamingo revealed that along with the Perennial Youth Surgery that grants immortality to another person, the Ope Ope no Mi (Op-Op Fruit) can be used with a national treasure in possession of the Celestial Dragons.
In Chapter 1151: “Domi Reversi”, Imu summons a book that allows them to conjure magic spell circles for various uses, ranging from summoning real-life weapons (daggers, pistols and a shotgun with bullets capable of cutting a Giant’s hand off) to imposing Devil’s Contracts upon targets.
The Devil Contracts give targets indestructible bodies capable of regenerating even from the smallest piece in exchange for a shortened lifespan.
Immortal bodies in exchange for shortened lifespan.
This sounds like the limitations of the Ope Ope no Mi’s Perennial Life Surgery, except imposed on those who become immortal instead of on the user who bestows immortality on someone else.
What if Imu is only able to bestow immortality on others because they already received the Perennial Life Surgery and bypass the Devil Contract’s restrictions?
National treasure is quite a peculiar, esoteric term used to describe a few items in One Piece that have immense power.
This was first brought up in Chapter 648: “The Road Toward the Sun” during the Fishman Island Arc, where we learn of the Ryugu Kingdom’s National Treasure, the Tamatebako.
The Tametebako is a box holding the Energy Steroids, which multiply the consumer’s strength, but when heavily abused, it ages them rapidly, following the myth of the Dragon Palace where the fisherman Urashima Tarō would surface after only a few days underwater, only to find that he had been gone for about a hundred years.
Currently, it is destroyed after the empty box was used as a bomb during Big Mom’s Tea Party on Whole Cake Island.
Wano’s National Treasure is the sword Shusui of the legendary sword saint, Ryuma.
Recently, we learned that Loki’s Devil Fruit was a legendary one and passed down through the royal bloodline, which could probably make it a National Treasure but the One Piece wiki does not recognize it as such, until we get more details.
In Japan, the sacred treasures or Imperial Regalia represent the authority and are usually kept secret, with only the Emperor and his Shinto priests being able to see them in the private enthronement ceremony.
What if the National Treasure of Mary Geoise is Imu’s spellbook?
The spellbook has similar rules to the Tametebako, which increases strength and durability in exchange for shortened lifespans.
To use the National Treasure would come at the cost of the user’s life.
This is also why Imu and the Five Elders have kept this power under wraps in the same way.
They too have a means of bringing truth to imagination just like Joy Boy and the knowledge that the Celestial Dragons have the magic of devils could shatter the foundations of their quasi-religious system.
We still do not know a lot about this spellbook other than its abilities.
Perhaps this spellbook is the key to Imu’s godly abilities and possibly the means by which Imu maintains their longevity, which could also mean that the Perennial Life Surgery has limits that could be exploited, maybe even with Advanced Haki.
