Inching Closer to the Core! Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 126 Review!

After almost 10 months of reader time battling the ultimate Kaiju, we might see it end before 2025 reaches its halfway point.

In the previous Kaiju No. 8 chapter, Ashiro fires the Keraunos Anti-Kaiju railgun in an effort to destroy the Meireiki Era Daikaiju’s core.

Editor’s note: “Keraunos, into the line of fire”

Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 126 has 21 pages.

This chapter continues right away and we see that the Daikaiju fires a beam, leading into a dangerous beam struggle.

Circuits 3 and 9 of the railgun are short-circuited, which puts Ashiro in danger as the gun and her within it begin to experience extreme heat.

Above the Daikaiju’s head, Kikoru brings down her Numbers Weapon 4, which is at its limits as Kikoru is currently at 51.4% Combat Power, which suddenly rises momentarily to 93%.

As she recalls her father and her oath as a Defense Force officer, to be the spear of the nation and shield of the people, Kikoru smashes the head of the Daikaiju with this final attack, splitting it open for Kafka to come in.

The chapter ends as the exposed core is finally revealed as Kafka is now close enough to crush it.

These chapters feel rather short, as we are only seeing basically 5 minutes of battle and repetitive flashbacks when put in a single anime episode, in particular so many flashes of Isao for Kikoru to be motivated, which almost feels like a cycle to itself.

Kafka is less involved here in spite of the evolution of his power being the key to stop the Daikaiju, though he is indeed the one to make the final blow.

While it is nice to see the involvement of the two most badass and important women in Kaiju No. 8, the battle somewhat feels less interesting due to how it is mostly a continuous digging effort while Kafka waits for progress to be made and with the biweekly schedule, this long battle feels way too disjointed to follow through unless you make yourself reread everything from even up to Chapter 114, where we started it and that chapter was released in the middle of last year.

Will this be the end of the long battle?

The battle began with Kaiju No. 9 being converted into the Meireki Daikaiju that it held inside itself in Chapter 114, released on August

An anime adaptation could just breeze through these chapters within 4 episodes or so, meaning a full month of content.

However, with Kaiju No. 8’s biweekly release schedule, we have been here for 10 months.

Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 127 will be released on May 22, 2025.
